As far as Goku is concerned, I just said him because many of the friends I have here on MAL like the Dragonball series and I if I were to ask that question on who they think is an epic character, Goku would be one of their answers. I'm not a fan of Goku really, I prefer Vegeta because he's more dynamic as a character and not naive like Goku is. In a way Char Aznable is a similar character to Lelouch, both are ambitious individuals and have goals they desire to accomplish. I remember Char making speeches in both the latter part of Zeta Gundam and the film Char's Counterattack that spoke of his ambitions. Another thing Lelouch and Char have in common is that they target the ruling family of an empire for the sake of revenge, although with Char the family in question is not his own, but another as he believes they killed his father and took over as rulers of Zeon, and he dons a mask and rises in the ranks of the military in order to get closer to the Zabi family to get his revenge. Char only is responsible for a couple of deaths in the Zabi family, while other times it was done by either the Zeon's enemy, the Earth Federation and within the family itself, either way it gets Char what he wants.

Sorry for the late reply, but to answer your question, yes I have heard of Lelouch, who hasn't since he's a prolific anime character and all. As far as him being "epic", this is just my opinion, but there are other anime characters that are more epic than Lelouch, such as Mobile Suit Gundam's Char Aznable, Dragonball Z's Son Goku, and LOGH's Reinhard von Lohengramm and Yang Wenli for example. My reason being for believing this is that these four characters have done so much in their lives over the course of many years and have accomplished much.

As I said, I don't like Highschool of the Dead, the ecchi in that show is just an eyesore. Aside from Kanon 2006 which I loved, other 00's titles I loved as well include Air TV, Black Lagoon(the entire franchise), Elemental Gelade, Fafner, FMP(the entire franchise), Kiddy Grade, Mai HiME, and others. If you're referring to late 90's anime titles that could be considered modern anime that I liked; Cowboy Bebop, Infinite Ryvius, Mamotte Shugogetten(plus the OVA sequel that came in the early 00's), Outlaw Star, and Rurouni Kenshin Tsuiokuhen.

I don't watch much modern anime titles these days with those that are currently airing, most of what they have to offer don't interest me to be honest with you. I don't what you would consider "modern", but a few examples I could give you of what I enjoyed were Angel Beats!, Senkou no Night Raid, Madoka Magica, the Rebuild of Evangelion films, and Gundam Unicorn. I know that's not much, but I guess I mainly see the older stuff because not many people do and there's still many that I want to see when I have the time.

He likes older anime, he's seen Macross, Space Battleship Yamato, Bubblegum Crisis, and the Dirty Pair and he likes all four of these series. So I was completely baffled when he said he didn't care for LOGH.

Yeah, I avoided Highschool of the Dead altogether, my boyfriend watched it and he liked it because he's a fan of zombie stuff, I have no idea what he saw in it, to me it was nothing more than mindless fanservice. What I don't understand is why he would rather watch that than something awesome like LOGH, which I tried getting him to watch, but he didn't seem interested. I don't think he gave it a chance though, he usually gives anime two episodes worth before deciding whether he'll watch it and for something like LOGH, that isn't enough. I thought he would like LOGH too because we both like sci-fi stuff.

Same here, although I have seen ecchi content of 90's anime, but they were not as bad as today's ecchi. At least 90's ecchi kept the proportions at a normal level and it wasn't shoved in our faces for the length of an entire episode.

Yeah, I see in your profile you like the original Macross and Legend of the Galactic Heroes, as well as Cowboy Bebop. I am fond of those respective titles myself. There's so many of them I like that it would take a while just to list them all. I'll just list a few awesome ones I enjoyed such as Gunbuster, Bubblegum Crisis, Kimagure Orange Road, Macross Plus, and Blue Seed.
