I ultimately respect Bleach and Kubo but I find the series frustrating especially the polarized discourse with each side not willing to acknowledge some validity to each other
I think some of the baseless speculation and hearsay about Bleach ending because of it getting canceled was one of the things that set this bottle rocket off even though there was no backing evidence for such a thing it was more realistic that the health of the author declined and that caused problems for the series
I think a lot of the problems surrounding Bleach tend to do with how people talk about the series in a very polarized fashion I appreciated the more nuanced and honestly realistic take of the series with how Kubo has a swollen cast of characters I also generally have problems with Kubo's worldbuilding being arbitrary at times only appearing when Kubo needs something to happen which usually results in Ukitake being the exposition dump character
Which is a shame
Kubo has characters that could be interesting given more time
He has a world that would be interesting to learn more about if he focused on it more and had it play into the plot
Tbf I think the characters often in isolation are very interesting and have unrealized potential instead of dedicating time to building up characters most of the time Ichigo as well as the series being an overly saturated battle-shonen where hundreds of chapters are back to back fighting how which the mechanics and strategy of each fight boil down to either gimmick fights or rule of cool moments Ichigo himself typically managing to win through some unheard caveat most of the time or due to his willpower
or because he's a Hollow, Quincy, Shinigami, Human Hybrid I guess is the reason he wins all his fights not through ingenuity or creative application of his Zanpaktou of which in a series with tons of unique supernatural powers like reversing the senses of your opponent Ichigo's special ability is "A slash" compare that to something like Luffy from One Piece where at least Luffy's power's offer a degree of interesting applications in how he fights his opponents using his elasticity to adapt and really making the ability his own
oh wow hi sappy, you perceived me! yeah i'm still here somehow, holding onto the frail existence of this mortal shell. i recently started getting back into watching and reading anime/mango over the last couple of months after years of not really touching much, so im dabbling in MAL again as a way to track it, its been ages since we spoke, i think like 2019ish? still using your discord these days? we should catch up!

Have you been studying Japanese too and what do you think of Gonzo anime?
I grew up watching Kaleido Star, Last Exile, Blue Submarine no. 6 and Gate Keepers. All of which I watched on cable TV.
