I still recommend to watch the anime version too because it have so banger soundtrack and the many great seiyuus from that time (like Banjou "Souther" Ginga as Riki for example). The animation remains good for the most part, but there are episodes where you can clearly tell it's a bit lazy, lol. However, it has a very important place in my heart because it was the first so-called "real" anime I watched and I was only 7-8 years old. The Finnish version was censored quite harshly, but there was still a bit of gore. It didn't scare me as much as the bears though xD
Oh yes! It's so sad that it didn't get into the 1986 anime adaptation. It covered only the Akakabuto arc (but it's still very nostalgic to me. The anime was a great hit in my country, Finland, and people still love it :D). Okay, maybe it was a little detached from the main story because Takahashi was forced to continue the story, but it still had some great moments. It almost felt like a mix of Saint Seiya, Hokuto no Ken and Ginga xD
You don't have to feel a connection with them, they're not your friends. They're characters that have their own relationships and those have an impact on the story. Remember that the characters are only teenagers, so the only important events in their lives would have been primarily in a controlled environment in their schools or shelters. Other than being ruff thugs, the events of Akira are life-changing for them.
I was talking about the movie. Tetsuo and Kaneda are straightforward, but Kei's intentions aren't clear, but I don't think that's an oversight. She just doesn't know what she's doing and feels like she has to be a part of a revolution.
The more you know about the managerial state and interpersonal relationships, the more obvious the story becomes. Some knowledge about war-torn and post-war Japan will help, too.
Thank you for visiting my channel. I tend to talk about the things I like but I also need to make content. There's plenty of things I haven't talked about yet. Currently working on a Kinnikuman Perfect Origin Arc Review for season 1. I gotta bring reviews back.
