I know what you mean, I've always seen Taro as the go-to guy if your looking for someone who is trying to push videogames as a genre a step further. And I agree, I was really hyped for the mobile game when it was announced, but the backlash from the community kind of turned me off to it. About his other games, I can really see what you mean by Automata being his most "polished" word, it surely is his most "west-friendly" (as crazy as it may sound). The main hindrance for me to just dive into everything he's made is that many of them are console exclusive and I am PC only. Still thinking of playing the first 2 Drakengard in a PS2 emulator, but it is a shame that they haven't got a remastered as Replicant has.

And the both of us have a lot o things to see and play yet, actually haha I myself haven't yet truly devoured Shinbou's and Yuasa's stuff, not to mention Kamiyama as well, who is really prominent among your favs. I've never been that interested in his filmography until I've met someone who does enjoy his works a lot such as yourself. Yet, I still feel manga is my main deficit, some really classic bangers like Akira, Blame and Berserk are in my Plan to Read section since I've created my account 7 years ago and I keep postponing them, it's a shame.

Btw, if I just go missing, feel free to reach me out through twitter or something. I usually forget there is a comment section in MAL since I usually only update stuff through an app.

I mean, that seems fair, the show even discusses Motoko's body as a theme, with Batou stating at least twice that he doen't get why she didn't pick a bigger male one. But the thing with the design for me isn't only about Motoko, most of the later episodes she isn't even using her "uniform" anyways lol. Even though I liked most of the decisions made there, sometimes the show seems to me to be more sci-fi than properly cyberpunk (when compared with Oshii's movie and, specially, Shirou's manga). Besides, I just don't see the 2000's style as that much appealing as the 80's style of the manga. But hey, I still think it was great nonetheless, I'm just point to the only downside I could find in it hehe

And what you said about 2nd GIG only got me more hyped. Kamiyama really seems to be more focused and in control of the whole pacing of the episodes since the second half of the first season.

And surely not, we never derail the topics lmao. The whole Nier experience is really something different, even though I haven't played any of the other Yoko Taro's pieces just yet. But anyone who tries to understand the lore of the game eventually ends up knowing all about the whole franchise. Come to think of it, it does hold some resemblance with GitS, like the entire hot badass MC who deals with heavy philosophical issues in a futuristic environment genre is really popular among Japanese people, I just love it. Plus you do have a really good taste my boy, really close to mine, I mean heh

Heyy, it's been a while, sorry for not replying the last message, I'm quite lazy when it comes to this sort of things.
But yeah, finally decided to give it a second shot and it was for the better. I still see the design as the main downside of it, even though it didin't come close to be as bothersome as I thought it would. The whole thing was really nice, probably the best adaptation of the manga's whole "vibe" out of all the entries I've seen thus far.

Btw, just started the 2nd GIG, and what about this second episode? The whole atmosphere of it, the reimagination (it this even a real word?) of Taxi Driver in a cyberpunk Japanese context caught me off guard. I'm in awe. Now I'm starting to understand why it is one of your favorites.

I read it years ago, actually, and only got around to updating my profile a few months ago. I'm not very good with being active on this site, as this 2.5-month delayed reply indicates. Sorry.

Will I read the other manga? Not the ones that are just adaptations of SAC and Arise, but I have been reading The Human Algorithim, first on Kindle Unlimited and then on a pirate site. It's excellent, if a little less intricate in its plotting than SAC. It comes deliciously close, though.

Yeah, watching Talking Head after having seen pretty much everything else Oshii has made put things a little in perspective, doesn't it? Specially the kind of obsession Oshii had, mainly in his early career, with the theme of storytelling and how we derive meaning from it, which we can see also in Gosenzo-sama and in Red Spectacles.

I've played the game, it's fun and all, it adds a little to the lore and the awareness that we, as players, play as the character that will symbolicly represent god in the movie adds some more nuance to the way you see the plot as a whole. But I would recommend to you just to spoil all the lore and main plot points to your friend right away, I've done it with one of my friends and it has worked perfectly. I believe it did so because, when you are blind watching it, you put too much effort in trying to understand the story, ends up quite frustrated and don't get enough time to pay attention to the WAY Oshii is telling all of this, which it the most fascinating part. Just an advice from what have worked for me, of course haha. And I would talk more about my interpretation of it, but would unevitably end up being too prolix, so...

Well, actually, to be honest, I don't remember a lot about SAC lol. In deed I've heard 2nd GIG is the best it gets and all and didn't even find it to the point I've watched particularly bad, just probably didn't engaged that much with the episodic aproach and was quite mad at the time with Motoko's cringe design lmao. But I'm willing to give it a second chance

I'm sorry for the late reply, I haven't been around here for a while.
But I certainly recommend it, if you like Oshii's stuff you will find Talking Head interesting, at the very least, specially since you are currently watching Gosenzo-sama, they have a lot in commom. And TRUE, Sky Crawlers is probably the most hated Oshii anime movie, even by his fans, by I disagree entirely. This film is one of the greatest pieces of art ever made, it is the synthesis of all the angsts Oshii tried to deal with throughout his career and the way he portrays them, specially in the film's ending, makes me wanna cry already lmao

Hey there! Can I ask you a couple of questions? How is Tetsuwan Birdy manga, and also how good is the Moribito novels? I'm a fan of both anime adaptations. Also, great taste overall. Cheers!
