With all the hype flying around the internet at the moment, I've got to ask: thoughts on Katawa Shoujo? I've been away for weeks around Christmas so I'd made hardly any progress on Symphonic Rain anyway, so I figured out I'd put it on hold for a bit longer and see what KS was like. I'm not done yet, but the routes are shorter than I'd expected, and it's pretty obvious that they were written by different people, which hurts consistency a bit.
I'm impressed that a group of people gathered from 4chan stuck it out and released pretty much the first notable OELVN ever, but I think most of the praise being heaped on it is from people who are playing it as their first VN. It's nice enough (the interface, parts of the soundtrack and CGs are particularly well done), and I'll probably go through all the routes, but it's hardly revolutionary.
Sumika's death was a bit like that, although I think she had enough very dramatic scenes earlier on for it not to be a huge problem. I ended up liking pretty much all the girls in the end, and thought the last chapter was amazing and heartbreaking at the same time.
I don't really score things until a while after I've finished them, and even then it's pretty sporadic (I don't think I've scored anything on my anime list for the last season or two either). I'll probably end up giving it a 9 too, you're absolutely right about the pacing. Some issues were to be expected given the cyclical nature of the story, but I think he could have figured out his reasons for fighting/whatever a bit sooner.
I haven't decided what I'll read next, I'll leave that decision until after exams. Maybe Symphonic Rain, I've been meaning to read that for ages. Let me know how Hanachirasu works out.
I'd love to see the Baldr Sky series translated, I've heard great things about them. I'm not sure what "Ongoing translation" really means, but it's got to be going faster than F/HA and Tomoyo After at least...
There really were quite a few hard-hitting scenes, and it doesn't really let up until the end. I felt so bad for Marimo each time, poor girl didn't deserve it.
I'm more of a Meiya kind of guy myself, but I really liked how Sumika was brought into the Alternative story. I knew she'd be in it somehow, but it was still a bit of a shock to see her.
I think when I got to about where you were I just powered through to the end, I'm really bad at leaving stories when they heat up like that. I assume you're finished by now?
Started on Muv Luv yet? I've finished Extra and Unlimited and I'm partway through Alternative now, and it's getting pretty damn good. Alt is definitely the high point but the first two were better than I thought they might have been, even if the side routes in Extra were pretty damn awful.
Same here actually. Got Muv Luv sitting there, I'm in Japanese locale and everything, just waiting until I can forget about uni work for a while. The more I hear about it the more I want to play it.
I feel pretty much the same way - Sharin no Kuni was better but I still liked G-senjou. I didn't figure out that Kyousuke was Maou either, but I was expecting a twist so much that it didn't have the same impact as Sharin's. Still it was a good read, and I thought Haru was great even if the first two girls dragged on a bit.
I'm pretty sure Air on a G string was in there at some point though I don't remember exactly where. I went into the music section to check, and BGMs 60-65 are all different versions of it.
I've never really followed it like this either, it feels so weird watching it in Japanese XD I knoww, everytime I watch it it gets me excited for Black and White! 8D But the subs do take forever, yeah D:

Apparently Little Busters just finished translation. Do you know if it’s any good or not?
