Read your review of BGCT2040 after finishing the anime myself just now, you managed to persuade my rating from "between 4 and 5, eh I'll grant it the 4" to giving it the 4 instead.
I enjoyed reading the condensed hatred you have for it (but wonder how it still ended up getting a 3 despite not having been graced by a single well-meant breath)
Haha you already answered me that on the Patlabor discord lul. But yeah no worries about not answering.
Anyway, I only read the first volume of the SAC manga and it is nice. Expanded a little bit, but it's not a must. The ARISE manga is actually a prequel for ARISE and then becomes an adaptation. Fans translated the prequel part, which is about Major and Batou in the fourth World War. It's... ok. A quick read so I guess you can check it out.
And yes THA is fantastic. And so god damn underappreciated. Even the fans don't know it exists! But I see there are finally enough ratings so it can get one on MAL lol. Tsunagi is so cool and makes GITS so fresh. I hope we see more of her in other media or other new characters for Section 9.
But there are also Shirow's sequels to the original Manga. GITS 1.5: Human Error Processor and GITS 2: Man-Machine Interface. Dunno if you checked those out. 1.5 is a fun read, weaker and not as grand as the original. 2 is batshit insane and very hard to follow. It's a cool story if you understand it (I needed to get it explained to me lol. Read the whole story only for the pictures at some point).
The illustration is from his 2001 artbook Venus, but the character depicted is from his manga Chirality. As for Five Star Stories, the first 10 volumes were officially released in English under the author's own company Toyspress in the late 90s or early 2000s, but I think they went bankrupt.
I appreciated your BGC review, it had a strong sense of passion that only a tried and true fan of the series and its genre could have written. Will be first time viewing ASAP.
In other words... go read it if you like Ghost in the Shell and want some franchise content that doesn't equate depth with fucking 1984 references. Jesus Christ
This sentence in your review of GITS: Human Algorithm made me laugh. I had the same sentiment in my review of SAC_2045 lol.

A good chunk of manga and anime you've completed have been on my to-check list for years. Hopefully 2024 will be the year for them!
