Your Name and Makoto Shinkai deserved the recognition! Rather than criticizing his movie for its plot-holes and cliches, shouldn't we anime watchers be grateful that an anime that was not produced by Studio Ghibli had hit the global medium? It was a revolutionary anime in the grand scheme of things!*
*Before the haters come, I am not a part of the bandwagon. I had actually grown to love A Silent Voice more than Your Name, so take that unprecedented bias and throw it out the window!
