Happy birthday!

It's really good, a bit of a slow burn but I found it pretty interesting from the beginning. The cast of main characters is great.

The last arc is definitely messy, however, I do think that it is a natural continuation of the story and is overall very good. It's quite different to the rest of the manga which is why people probably dislike it, as well as the fact that it elevates the stakes tremendously.

As for Kurono, I think he's great. He's absolutely pathetic at the start, but I do think that the character arc that he undergoes is very well done and surprisingly uplifting for an Oku manga. I think that he's a great character.

Yeah, I need to do that too lol. I've gotten through most of his filmography but, I need to watch Panic Room and Benjamin Button. And possibly Alien 3, if I'm curious enough to see it in the future. But, I'm honestly surprised you haven't watched Fight Club. I definitely think you will love it. Zodiac was really good but, a bit on the long side and I'd rather not say my thoughts on the Game since they are kind of spoiler territory.

Great to hear that! Aster's works are fantastic and definitely worth the watch. He is really blooming as an up and coming director and I'm excited to see what he does next. I haven't watch the Conjuring so, I can't really say but, I will agree that they are pretty unconventional when it comes to horror films. They are more atmospheric and tense and don't lean on cheap jump-scares. But, have fun with those as well as the Nolan films!

As for me, my main plan is to watch more of Kubrick's filmography. Films like A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket and Dr Strangelove have been really enticing to me after watching Barry Lyndon and 2001, which I regard as some of my favourite films ever.

Yeah, I do use my Discord but, not all the time. But, I'd love to join the server, thanks for inviting me!

Sounds great! I've wanted to get into Korean film too and I've added a bunch of great ones to my watchlist. I actually added 1987 and Train to Busan a while back and I didn't notice I didn't have Age of Shadows there, even though I did lol. But, Parasite is great, I have to agree. The simple themes of classism and the social ladder being portrayed in Bing's signature style of dark comedy and intense thriller being perfectly balanced made for an incredible film. The lack of any real villainous figure, so no demonising of any social status is really present and it just presents a really compelling and gripping narrative with well-done characters. And weirdly enough, it isn't my favourite film of 2019 lol (That would have to go to the Lighthouse). If you are watching a lot of Korean cinema, I would recommend Park Chan-Wook. I've only watched one film from him (The Handmaiden) but, I'm definitely excited to see more of his work and I highly recommend watching the Handmaiden.

It's pretty funny how we have conflicting views on Alien. I felt pretty immersed in the film and I think the set design and effects really helped with that. It also might have been the fact that the premise as whole is pretty effective and conceptually is quite scary to me. I think the film's quality really banks on the tone and atmosphere which keeps the film tense and nail-biting. While I do think Blade Runner is slightly better, Alien is an easy 9/10 in my book.

I think the most I've felt burnt out on anime is when I just started to get into film back in Feb or March. I was watching episodes very occasionally and I would spend most of my time watching films. But, right now, I've kept it pretty consistent but, kind of leaning towards the film side rn. It's scary how I've kept a film a day pretty consistently from the end of Feb until now. But, film has been great lately. This month alone has been fantastic with the highlights being both Blade Runner films, Y Tu Mama Tambien, The Holy Mountain, Silence of the Lambs, Big Lebowski, In the Mood for Love, Incendies and Brazil which I watched today. I also rewatched a lot of great films like the Cornetto Trilogy, Seven, EoE, No Country for Old Men and Uncut Gems.

What are some specific directors, genres or countries you are excited to watch films from?
YungFetus Jul 28, 2020 11:31 PM
Not really, tbh. I did, at times, but it was never the show's fault. I would sometimes decide to watch an episode at an inappropriate time (when I'm tired, when I can't watch it in one sitting due to outside circumstances etc.) and ofc, that would cause some of the exposition in the show to not register and leave me confused. But, I would just watch the episode again at a more appropriate time and understand what was going on. But, I can understand the heavy exposition, concepts and themes being hard to follow. As for which season was harder to follow, I don't really consider either as "hard to follow" but, if I had to pick one, it would be S2. Just the addition of two antagonists would make it slightly harder but, that would be the only factor.

Recommending shows to others is pretty difficult, I'm sure you would understand. It usually goes like me recommending a show and them either not being interested or just "adding it to the list" or "I'll be sure to watch it" and them most likely not getting to it. But, I can definitely understand (tbh, I've done it too) since they may actually not be interested or may actually watch it. How about your experiences?

Thank you! Really appreciate it! It probably wouldn't have come out the way it did without you since you sent me that Mega link with all the fanart you used in your old mosaic and I decided to use some of those lol. So, thanks for that, it was a huge help! Glad to hear you have been getting back into film! What have you been watching recently?

I also have to apologise for a late reply. I've just been pretty busy with work and have been unable to respond. You put it pretty well, I also really love Gone Girl. I will have to say that I like TSN more than GG and it's probably my favourite Fincher film because he just perfectly finds his match with Sorkin. It's definitely his most unidentifiable film by first glance (doesn't have that thriller/crime tag to begin with) but, you slowly get to see his direction shine and perfectly complement this impeccable script. But, honestly, TSN has probably one of the best scripts, it's amazing.

With Gone Girl however, I can definitely understand your love for the film. It's an amazing, well-structured and calculated thriller that keeps itself from being predictable and tropey. It's an great narrative that focuses on perception and how our bias can manipulate the information around us and it's reinforced through the satirical elements regarding the media. Fincher intends to criticise and satirize journalism through their judgements and verdicts surrounding Nick, which is still applicable to society now, seen through cancel culture and fake news. The film also really explores and subverts the themes of marriage and how couples keep a facade up despite being a couple and how their true feelings about each other aren't always shared. I loved Amy as an antagonist, Rosamund Pike's performance was cold and calculating and Ben Affleck as Nick was always weird to watch, constantly able root for and against him.

Are you planning on watching any films in the near future?
YungFetus Jun 26, 2020 5:18 AM
I probably should have gotten Princess Mononoke lol. Excellent movie, really good pick. I had a sneaking suspicion the other image was Max Payne but, I also thought it was way off lol.

No, tbh, Gone Girl was one of the easiest ones I recognised. I really love the film. What are your thoughts on the film?
YungFetus Jun 25, 2020 5:10 AM
I think it looks great! Love the image choices and it's a great mixture of different mediums (anime, films, games). I've been considering doing that but, I don't really consume that much outside of anime and films lol. Just for clarification, what is the image to the left of the TDK trilogy and to the left of GTA? I probably know them, I just can't identify them through the image. Looks stunning though!
TALKlNGHOST Jun 24, 2020 8:21 AM
huh, did i not answer this? i thought i did.. well, sorry for the late answer but yeah, i just haven't watched a lot, yet :( working on it tho :D
YungFetus Jun 24, 2020 5:06 AM
That makes a lot of sense. I've done that once or twice and I think time is one of the biggest critiques when it comes to media. The lasting effect is really important to me and is basically the only element that I can't assess right after watching. So, I can definitely understand where you are coming from.

I think a favourite list comes down to multiple different elements that includes gut feeling. I think gut feeling is probably the most important, especially considering a top 5 or 10. Those shows are usually the ones I connect to and enjoyed the most. They are the shows that are always on my mind and are most interested in hearing about. Also, as mentioned earlier, they stand the test of time, in the way that they never feel worse when recounting moments or episodes in my head. Obviously, technical elements and substance are important too but, they still all factor into the enjoyment and connection to a show for me. That's how I think about it anyway.
YungFetus Jun 23, 2020 5:29 AM
Thanks for that. I really appreciate it. I love to see people speak about their favourite anime or any favourite for that matter, movie, TV show, book etc. even if it's not a particular favourite of mine since I get to see so much passion from the other person which is what I see here. I think Re:Zero is due for a rewatch since its been a while since I've watched the show but, I'll make sure to keep these thoughts in mind while rewatching it. I noticed you removed your favourite anime, are you re-evaluating some of your favourite anime?
LightBestGirl Jun 22, 2020 10:27 AM
I was going to watch SAC about 2 months ago but was burnt out of anime at the time so I didn't, but I definitely want to watch it sometime in the near future. It's supposed to be better than the movies, and I did like the first a decent amount, so I expect to like SAC a lot.
YungFetus Jun 22, 2020 5:51 AM
I enjoyed it quite a bit and I'm pretty excited to watch the next season of the show. I should have probably rewatched the show before but, it slipped my mind lol. It's definitely the strongest isekai I've watched (which isn't really saying much since I'm not a huge fan of basically all the other ones I've watched) but, it's still an enjoyable, fun show. Subaru is a great protagonist who doesn't really deserve the hate he gets imo. The way the show portrays his struggles in this fantasy world and the struggles of time travel is really well done. Their main goal is to create a sense of empathy with the character and I think they achieve that. Some of my issues come with the rest of the cast as I wasn't as invested in them. I thought characters like Emilia, Rem and Beatrice were fun and fulfilled their role in the narrative but, they never hooked me or got me interested in them. I was always paying more attention to Subaru which isn't a terrible thing but, sometimes took me out of the show a little. The pacing and tone is good and the isekai worldbuilding is pretty well done despite it having the "generic" fantasy, medieval type world. I overall think that Subaru's characterisation and progression was the strongest part of the show and despite my criticism of the supporting cast, I'm happy they were able to present the main protagonist well. Also, another criticism is the last third involving the whale fight. I just wasn't a huge fan of it. The action elements kind of threw me off and it felt jarring in comparison to the rest of the show. But other than that, I think it's a great character study with well done dramatic beats paired with excellent visuals (something I forgot to mention)

What are your thoughts on Re:Zero?
LightBestGirl Jun 22, 2020 4:54 AM
Yeah I get that, it's always annoying when outside circumstances affect your watching experience negatively.

I think S1 had quite a few moments like that too, stuff like Kaguya riding with Miyuki on the bike, it's such a beautiful moment that made me attached to it even back then, so my level of investment hasn't increased too drastically, though I do agree S2 has more of those moments, and it also gives more spotlight to characters aside from the main duo which is great. I've seen a lot of people who agree with you that the comedy is better, and I agree to an extent. The comedy peaks a lot higher, and the visual direction is so innovative, even more than in S1, though I actually think S1 was more consistent with its comedy, even if it didn't hit the same highs as this season. I suppose I agree with you overall, but I don't think of it as a big step up in quality from S1 (I know you said at the start that you wouldn't say it's significantly better, but a +2 increase in rating is quite big in my eyes), it's just more of the same (which is a good thing) and it also has more "serious" and emotional moments, which also creates an exponential increase in your investment. S1 is a 9 for me and S2 is a 9.5, S3 might be a 10, it's gonna be so good. I hope I made sense with all this, it felt like a bunch of BS at times lol.

Oh yeah, my favorite movie, GITS 2. It's been a while since I watched it so I don't remember exactly what I disliked about it, but I do remember it was one of the most boring and least immersing watching experiences I've had. I also think half the movie was philosophical quotes which I'm too stupid for. Honestly, I don't think I even finished it lol.

Israel. In case you were going to ask- it sucks here, don't like the country or the people.

Btw, I saw your comment on Yung's profile and I'm very happy that you realized the genius behind the matching pfps.
