Hi. I'm obsessed with covering my entire life in lists and charts so this site is basically heaven for me. Y'know, as long as I stay away from the forums. I'm incredibly fickle, so I can drop what might be a really good show based on some small flaw that bugs the hell out of me, but I'll also sing the praises of total trash because it appeals to my fetishes.
I'm fine with subs (I'm Dutch, how could I not be) but I'll watch a good dub if there is one and it's easily available. I don't really bother seeking out dubs for new shows anymore because they're usually pretty bad.
Sacred cows to slaughter: FMA '03 is great, Brotherhood is appalling. Hunter x Hunter is boring. Gintama isn't funny. Monogatari was good for a little bit but crawled way up its own lolicon ass. Made in Abyss is 90% pedo torture porn. I don't have the patience for Legend of Galactic Heroes so I have no opinion on it, but its fans sure are annoying. If you're someone who blows a gasket about a character being interpreted as trans, get a life.
If you know of any shows I should add to my
mad vibes list, please let me know.
ABOUT RATINGS:
I'm pretty meticulous about rating things so I try to use the entire spectrum of 1-10. I also admit that I'm always in flux as a human being though, so I use tags to keep track of when I rated something. The longer ago it was, the more likely it is that I should give it another go and see how the rating stacks up then. (Plus, if it's more than a few years ago I probably hadn't made the system yet so there's a lot of garbage that gets rated a 6 or 7. That'll take a while to work out.)
Here's what each number means:
10: So consistently fantastic and timeless that I can potentially rewatch it forever.
9: Holds up very well despite some "yeah buts", and definitely a high recommendation.
8: Solid with notable dips. Might be a long-runner that can't help but fluctuate in quality, might be a shorter show that just doesn't hold up all the way through.
7: Respectable, but not a huge standout.
6: Thoroughly okay. Entertaining enough to finish, but I probably won't revisit it.
5: Not awful, but far from necessary viewing. Could be something very schlocky, or a forgettable entry in a franchise I otherwise like.
4: The flaws outweigh the redeeming qualities. Might be interesting to use as a case study, but I'll never actually recommend it.
3: Pretty dire. There was a good idea here somewhere, but I ended up having an awful time.
2: No redeeming qualities. Avoid.
1: Actively offensive (either to me or the franchise it’s a part of.)
No rating: I usually don't rate specials or OVAs because they're simply extensions of the main show and pointless to consider as their own entity.

I don't blame your friends for hating Zero no Tsukaima they were probably turned off by the strong harem and ecchi elements particularly in seasons 2-4 but the male lead mostly develops a strong romance with just the main girl even ties the knot in the end.
