As we enter into one of the busiest times of the year, we here at the Recommendation Club would like to extend our wishes for each and every one of you to have a wonderful holiday season!
Since the September newsletter, our club has gained many new members, and seen the return of old ones. We would like to keep the momentum going, and with our member list now at 3,111, that should be no problem at all! ^_^.
We would like all of our members, old and new, to help keep this an active, and fun club, a place to Chat and to seek out recommendations in our General anime and General Manga thread as well as the specific anime genre threads, such as Drama and Romance and Sci-fi and many others as well.
It’s a great place to make new friends, or renew past friendships, and we urge all of our members to drop by, and post in the various threads and comment section, as well as share you expertise with other members.
With the fall season upon us, the club has not been as active recently with our members being busy with work, school, and the other things life throws our way, but we here at the Recommendation Club want to let all of our members know that we haven't gone anywhere! We welcome you all to drop by, and say hello to old friends, or make new ones. We have a large member-list, and we would like to see all of you joining in, and sharing, your anime and manga knowledge with the club!
Loads of new members join all the time, either wanting recommendations, or eager to share their expertise with others, so don't be shy, and join right in! Like to chat? Well we have a thread just for that. New to our club or like to greet others? Check out our Intro thread. Looking for a new anime to watch or manga to read? Head on over to our General Recommendation Thread. Don't see what you want to know? Please feel free to make new threads to get your burning questions asked, or just join in with the others in the comments section!
We are currently seeking help with our member cards, so if you feel like lending a hand in this area you are more than welcome!
We look forward to seeing all of you at the club ^_^
So I just finished watching the first few episodes of Michiko to Hatchin after remembering you talking about it a bit back, and I have to say that so far I'm liking it...Do I have more good things to look forward to?
Hahahahah okay okay, if it weren't for the questionable title, do you really think it sounds that bad? Somebody mentioned somewhere that if you liked Shawshank Redemption, you should like Rainbow, so I added it to the "to watch list." I figure it'd be one of those things where I should at least check out the first episode, you know?
How's that Angel Beats by the way? I read the description a while back, and thought it sounded interesting enough (plus, for some reason, I like 12-13 ep. series SO much more than the 24-26 standard), but then I saw the picture they had posted, and forgot about it since it looked like I've seen those same girls with guns about a million times before. Then again, I was initially turned off of TTGL because of the MAL picture, so maybe that's not the best way to judge...
And sadly, no on the Durarara catching up....Do you really say the second half is looking better than the first though? I was DAMN impressed by everything they've done in the first...Anyways, I've gotta make sure to watch those....I keep putting it off so that I don't have to rewatch them over and over w/ other people, but I think I might just give in at this point...
In a word, I'd have to say it was...AMAZING. It definitely doesn't have an average rating of almost 9 for nothing...It doesn't do anything really new, but it does what it does DAMN well. As you can see, one of the main characters quickly shot up waaay up on my favorite characters list. I've got the series in 720 for ya the next time you come over, so don't worry about the dl. Also, that massive 19.1 gig season 1 of geass finally finished!
Anyways, back to TTGL...I'm sure you've heard, but they definitely have a clear division where the arcs of the story begin/end. The very first arc was some of the best anime I've seen period...a definite 10. Then the second arc (though I'm sure some would group the first two arcs together) also a 10 I'd say, though not as solid as the first bit. Then the second half of the series I'd say was pretty good, but definitely could not compare to the first half. Of course, that's a bit of an unfair comparison though, considering how great the first half was. Anyways, all in all, you really should watch TTGL.
I noticed you took quite a fancy to Kuchu Buranko! Anything in particular that especially did it for ya?
Hahahah yeah...after watching the goodness that is Bartender, I read through the poll about whether it made me want to drink, and saw that one comment made about bebop and smoking, and I just had post a comment...i never really even noticed that there were forums on this before! hahahah
Witchblade
-Alot of people are put off of this series simply because there are alot of adult situations (skimpy outfits, big breasts, etc). I have been a fan of the Witchblade comic series since the mid-90's and when they decided to make an anime of it 13 years later, I was psyched. The story is purely a witchblade (universe) story and its one of the better stories I've experienced in anime. Everyone i have told to watch this show agrees that this is one of the good sleeper titles. Read Tehnominator's review pretty much sums it up.
Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage
-I love the first season don't get me wrong, but one of my most favorite story arcs of all time is buried in the Second Barrage.
Ghost Stories
- This is dubbed anime at its finest. The original story was so laughably bad, that the American licensees decided to scrap it and make a whole new script. What comes out is a great late night comedy that made me laugh till i cried with every episode. I have a forum thread in there that sums up how great the dub is if you can find it.
Ghost in the Shell
- Was truly my very first anime i have ever watched and since then i have seen this movie at least 50 times.
Gunslinger Girl
- Dark drama, intense action, ass kicking loli's. The epitome of a gun girl anime. This started my love for gun girl anime. And this was also my first Blu-ray purchase.
Lovely Complex
- Best romantic comedy anime i have seen to date. And i have seen over a few dozen since i watched this.
Spice and Wolf
-Definitely an anime not for everyone but if you do start to enjoy it you'll love it all the way through. I even wrote a review for it. It should be the first one :)
Candy Boy
-Slice of life girl love. Again not for everyone but I cant help but love the chemistry between the sisters and the drama that surrounds their innocent life.
Baccano!
-This is the only anime that i know that tries to follow the Quentin Tarantino method of movie making.
The Place Promised in Our Early Days
-Makoto Shinkai (creator of this and 5cm/s and voices of a distant star) is the best artist in the industry. If you liked 5cm/s then you might like this.
Eve no Jikan
-Deep story is deep. Made me think alot.
Sorry to waste space on your comments section but this seems like a good spot as any to reply :)
