Haha, funny that you should mention not frequenting MAL too frequently, since I completely forgot I had an MAL for like...a lot of time since I got super busy with school! Sorry bout the late reply!

It was really fun talking with you as well, and I will definitely let you know if I am on the run from the IRS. Or visiting Austria. Or both. :)

I actually tried Cowboy Bebop and had the exact same experience as you--I watched until episode 4 and then dropped it. It wasn't because I thought it was bad, it was just like you said--really slow and I ended up getting bored. I tried approaching it with the perspective of not bingeing it and watching like one a night last year and I had a much better time with it. It's definitely not a captivating OVERALL plot imo, but the atmosphere, characters, and buildup to the final couple of episodes is really beautiful and melancholic. Plus each episode is just great all on its own. Definitely an experience I've never had with another show, which is why it's one of my favs. It's not for everyone though, and I feel like you have to be in a patient mood to start watching it instead of feeling like it's an obligation because everyone says it's good (which is how I was the first time I tried watching).

Also yeah my mouth cramps all the time with oboe! It's very pretty but also extremely annoying and very hard to get to sound right like you said, especially since the reeds are so unreliable and don't last that long. I'm trying to learn how to make my own reeds right now and it is a p a i n f u l experience. :/ But I believe! I'll get there! ...someday... Which wind instrument did you try to play? A lot of them are way harder for certain people than others (for example, some people can't play the flute because of a certain lip shape) so I'm curious to know if you just had bad luck or something. And I'm sure your sound wasn't as bad as a wheeze! Everyone sucks when they first try an instrument anyway :)

Yeah, definitely don't teach here lol, every teacher I've had here is either a saint and too good for the minimum wage that they get in public schools, or an actual demon that thrives off of pain. As sad as it is to say, teachers are better off elsewhere until we can get our shit together. Just from a few words from you I can tell you have a good attitude, so I'm sure you're gonna be a great teacher, despite the subject matter being the very challenging realm of STEM! :)

Honestly I don't enjoy the performance part of music a lot (which is what they're insisting I do--and yes, playing the oboe is my duty in order to keep the scholarship) but I really enjoy composition and theory! So I guess the music major isn't all bad, especially most of my classes since composition and theory are the main focuses. And omg, only 140 a semester?! I need to move to Austria--I've got a full tuition scholarship but still pay thousands a semester in fees. And it will only get worse if I go to grad school :')

Also yayyyyy another Cowboy Bebop fan!! I just watched it about a year ago, such good stuff. Soooo much love for all the music!

Dude that's such a cool thing to be studying! You must have a lot of patience to be going into the teaching field, much respect! And wow, a comparison of Finnish and American school systems...that's definitely an INTERESTING topic. From my experience, the American school system is hot garbage, but you probably found that out in your research already.

I really haven't done much research, honestly. All of it was done through a science program in my high school, so we wrote a bunch of papers every year and tried to learn how to be good scientists and whatnot. My big paper was related to my work in an autism spectrum disorder lab investigating how teenagers with the condition responded to social situations. My research specifically was pretty pointless and didn't contribute to much of anything, but it was good experience and I liked working there!

Also, I'm actually a double major, I also study music! I usually just tell people I'm a psych major because the only reason I'm even a music major is because I'm required to in order to keep my scholarship (and I think I would die of debt if I didn't have that scholarship). I'm still deciding if it's worth the pain since being a music major when you don't really want to be is brutal, but anything for money, right? :/

Do you have a major/minor thing also? Is that how it works in Austria too or is it different? I'm only familiar with the American school system because America is dumb and operates like no other country exists.

(also if i ever get around to watching all the shows on my plan-to-watch list, something has seriously gone wrong in my life at that point. that list is a bunch of wishful thinking and i will be lucking if i get around to watching a quarter of those shows lol)

Yeah I have to agree with you about the lasting impression thing, I can barely remember the plot points besides the first 20 or something episodes and near the end. The middle is a bit murky. I thought the philosophy was pretty revolutionary when I watched it for the first time, but thinking back on it now...kind of the standard for most anime. Wish it did something more experimental instead of trying to please everyone!

You were close with STEM--I'm studying psychology. I did a lot of research and smart-related things in high school, but now I'm just trying to get a degree :') Trying to do some research next semester if I can, but I probably won't have time.

What about you? Are you in college and stuff? If so, what are you studying? I'm gonna take a stab and guess...STEM? Also? Since you mentioned the research papers earlier.

ok i know this is spam at this point but your tags are amazing lmao
LilToadie Sep 4, 2021 8:38 PM
Oh my god I'm stupid. Tags are those little notes in the anime list thing. Duh. I still update them sometimes, but most of them are kinda old. I deleted a lot of the super cringey notes I put in during high school when I was trying to be funny? Or something? They were really bad lol
LilToadie Sep 4, 2021 8:29 PM
Yyuuuuup, research papers suck major butt. Some of my professors have had a very grandiose sense of self and always had to find something to pick at even if there's seemingly nothing wrong. Plus research papers sometimes can be so dull to write. Blegh. But I guess it helped with the review, which is...good? I guess?

If I'm being completely honest, FMA is one of the first shows I ever watched related to anime, and I've never fully given it a rewatch, so the score of 10 and it being my favorite is kind of just because it introduced me to anime and I loved it for so long lol. I still believe it to be very good though when I watch an episode or something randomly! Personally I just enjoyed the pacing, story, and the characters (I especially liked that the female characters were actually interesting and not just fanservice and wish-fulfillment), but, now being many years older, I can see the problems with it more clearly. I think my opinion on FMA isn't really needed anyway, since it's so heavily discussed already and has a reputation that precedes itself.

Also, I actually don't remember putting on any tags! I made this account a few years ago and don't get on much besides just to rate stuff, so I'm gonna have to go check out mine and yours rn and see what they say, if I can manage to find where they are :)

Glad to hear, his manga "Mein Kampf" is an all-time classic)
LilToadie Sep 4, 2021 8:20 AM
Oh also thanks for the friend request! Just saw it and accepted!

Thanks so much for the comment, I'm really glad you liked my review! Also it's fine about the "haters," someone's gotta let them vent out their anger, right? (Also, it's kind of entertaining to respond to them) I used to do a lot more creative writing than I do now--most of what I drew from when writing that review was writing research papers, which is really depressing because research papers are the WORST to write :') Again, thanks so much for your comment and kind words, really appreciate it!

the soundtracks art style story ... in the old version makes you feel like you are playing a classic japanese JRPG and that's what makes it amazing
9aziz9 May 5, 2021 5:43 AM
been a fan since 2007 I got back to the anime in the last years to see the rest of the story but it was so boring the soundtracks were better the art style was better...it's simply was legendary, I see that most of your favorites are classic anime you will enjoy it, I recommend trying some episodes before you spoiler everything with 2011 madehouse version
9aziz9 May 4, 2021 10:40 PM
watch HxH 1999 legendary classic anime, better than the childish 2011 version
