My old "About Me" was getting pretty old, so here's a new one. Hello there, my name is Reaper71 (no, not really) and I have been watching anime for about eight years, give or take. Here are some things you may, or may not, want to know about me:
- I don't like people who disagree with me (just kidding).
- I really don't like people who use Beats headphones.
- I like people who are willing to talk through an argument.
- My favorite anime was Steins;Gate, but EoE beat it and I'm hoping something will beat IT in the near future.
- I didn't cry while watching Clannad After Story. That's right. I said it.
- Don't ask me to build anything.
- Unless I tell you otherwise, I like you.
More coming soon?
El. Psy. Congroo.
I've changed my rating style a little bit to reflect how I've grown as an anime connoisseur (read: loser), so here it is.
10/10: Masterpiece? I haven't seen one yet. I'll get back to you on this one. 9/10: Something that not just fulfills its potential, but exceeds it. Shows like this challenge my expectations, and end up being better than I ever thought they would be. Oftentimes, they have had a personal impact on my own development as a person. 8/10: Something that fulfills its potential, hits its beats masterfully, and provides an interesting, exciting, and well-constructed story. Typically has only one or two noticeable flaws. This is a show that makes me very glad to have watched it. 7/10: A show that has lofty ambitions and the skill/talent to make good on them, but somehow falls just barely short. Oftentimes it's just missing that little extra thing that would push it over the top in my eyes. Shows with this score still demonstrate brilliance at multiple points, and are among my favourites of all time. 6/10: Similar to a seven, but what derails these shows is a much more grave mistake, or a larger quantity of small missteps along the way, both of which distract from what it does right. Very worthwhile, even exceptional in some regards--but with qualifiers. 5/10: A show that is, on the whole, mediocre, but shows occasional glimmers of greater potential or higher thematic depth. Interesting enough for me to finish, and often pretty enjoyable, but nothing special. 4/10: A show that falls just short of my basest standards of quality, generally lacking multiple key elements that would have made it decent. I can still enjoy these shows on a personal level, but not a critical one. 3/10: Shows that are all too blatantly generic or nonsensical, and are even able to offend the viewer with their own mediocrity. Have no intelligent ideas or substance to offer, generally coasting on production values, if that. This is where the enjoyment leaves. 2/10: Please no. Just no. These shows are the basest of the base: intellectually bankrupt, lacking any sort of substance, and worst of all, offensive in how unenjoyable they are. 1/10: Again, I have never watched a show this bad. But if I do, I'll get back to you.
A TLDR for those of you who don't want to read...
10: Doesn't exist, or if it does, I haven't seen it. 9-6: These are good shows. I would recommend them to anyone. 5: Shows that were generally alright, but straddle the line. I'd recommend these to people with a few qualifiers attached. 4-2: Bad shows. I wouldn't recommend these to people. 1: Doesn't exist, or if it does, I haven't seen it.
These ratings do shift a bit when used to describe shorts, ONAs, OVAs, and other small offerings, but I'll leave you to figure that out.
Yes, I definitely will check it out. Now, when you mention your other "content", is this a referral to your blog post on the Kizumonogatari trilogy or a mention of your youtube channel? If it's the latter, I would appreciate a link since I couldn't find your channel.
I see you have Hachiman as one of your favorite characters. I just happened to find your page when looking around MAL, being relatively new. You write really good reviews that are accurate and do a good job explaining the appeal of the anime. Just thought I'd let you know.
Glad you liked it! And yeah, it's probably more a four or five on my personal scale - pretty middling overall.
The second season of Sangatsu no Lion is definitely the anime I'm most excited for right now. Kinda tempted to read the manga and catch up, but I also don't want to spoil what will happen in the anime. Hm...
I think you should try out Hunter x Hunter (2011), looking at your list I believe it would rank at least 8. There is no rushed character development and everyone is given a chance to be introduced separately from the main character. The only problem is is that it is 148 episodes and that you have no idea where it's going when it starts off.
Hi! By Ladykiller you mean Hyun-ae? It's quite complicated for me. On the one hand, I don't like that she killed everybody, but on the other... well, I can understand her feelings. Can't say I like her very much, but when Mute asked me did I feel sorry for Hyun-ae, I answered "Yes". Her butthurt was adorable. Haven't played Digital yet, slowly reading Hate Plus (slowly because of other things that need to be done/read/watched), but will finish it this week or next (I hope).
I actually have no idea. http://www.zerochan.net/1146356
This is where I got the picture from.
It does seem to indicate s/he is a part of Nico Nico, but I do not know his songs. And lol, speaking of Chitanda, I just started Hyouka today. Doesn't seem to be my cup of tea though.

I agree with everything, it was very disappointing. I hope 4.0 will be better.
