If you just learn BBCode from the website then you can make something like this as well. Took me 9 hours to get this profile like this, i will admit that 4 of the hours were finding and fixing the pictures i wanted to use lol.
The cards are from different MAL clubs.
Hmm I guess there are some categories but it usually just about how rare a card is.
Eye Candy Cards and The Moonlit Clearing are social clubs here in MAL. It is where people who have the same interests (which is anime/manga usually), hangout and participate in events/activities (one of which is collecting cards).
Umm I don't know any other place to get familiar with cards other than joining clubs like the ones you mentioned. :)
