SSY explanations: in the series it tells us that they genetically modified humans with many genes so to make society a livable place,(my memory might be wrong in some places but anywho),

-they spliced in wolf genes, these genes are for family bonds as wolves NEVER attack each other that couple with when they explained what the actual reasons of what happens with the death sickness, the heart pumps faster and sends them into cardiac arrest, thus killing them, was 1 of the things

-the bonobo chimpanzee, this gene splice gave them the reaction to conflict, of have sex to release endophines into the brain having a calming effect on the body (same logic as to why they give us Oxygen in a plane crash, we get high ,yes high and calm down), this makes them seek sexual stimulace, and free love, knowing this and the fact that they were never taught homos are bad hetro is good, means that they can love who they want, when you are younger you seek the companionship of your own gender, this is why most of your close friends in your young years are the same gender, now with all 3 of these put together you can see that same sex relationships were prevalent in their teens. this being the case they have to make couples of hetro relationships in order to have children, hence the "forced" partnerships

-if im right they also spliced in another gene that i cant remember but that answers why the homosexuality was there and was rather important in the way the world of SSY worked
