I'm not sure I'd be posting any Anime and Manga lists on my profile even if I am an avid anime watcher. I have a few reasons such as uncertainty to count shows I watched in the past because I deliberately watch some fragmentary. As much as I like to hop on the bandwagon for popular anime shows, I still for a degree of shyness when discussing the topic so I think I might keep my profile page secretive. Just felt it's worth sharing.

You're welcome, and I agree! I understand how daunting it can get. Enjoy yourself! :D

Ahhh, well unfortunately I do not watch more popular series simply because the plots of such anime are usually not up my alley. But one mainstream anime that I do recommend is Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin). It is phenomenal. Death Note is another. I don't necessarily know if Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica (MSMM) is as mainstream as Naruto and the likes, but it is still pretty popular, so I suggest watching that too. Don't be fooled by the art. ;) Hellsing Ultimate OVA is where it's at for the more popular titles- don't bother with the (shitty) anime, jump straight to the OVAs.

Then of course I can suggest lesser known anime, such as Kino no Tabi (my second all-time favorite; first is MSMM, as mentioned above), Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou and Hoozuki no Reitetsu if you want some comedy; Another and Boku Dake ga Inai Machi (Erased) for some good mystery/thriller; Gakkougurashi! and Witch Hunter Robin for more great ones (I don't necessarily know what genre they could generally fall under).

As for movies, start from the works of Studio Ghibli. I haven't watched much of them, but I would really recommend Laputa Castle in the Sky. There's also Bakemono no Ko, Summer Wars, Colorful, Sakasama no Patema, and Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo.

And I don't know if it's right up your alley, but Natsume Yuujinchou and Usagi Drop are good slice-of-life anime.

Hopefully these helped, and you find something you like! :D

Hey there! I saw your post on the 'can you consider yourself an anime fan if you've seen a little amount of shows' (or whatever the original title was) thread, about how you find it hard to figure out where to start with anime. I love recommending shows to people, so could you tell me what genres you usually prefer? I might be able to recommend something that you'd like. Anime is a wonderful world, so I'd like to help you out :D

Err, no, I would not know what show to recommend, as I have no idea what you might like and what not. Also, what is available to you and what not, does it need to come in English (or other language) dub, etc.
If you have already watched any anime, add them to your list, give them a rating if you feel like. If you have add some favourite shows/ characters / people at the bottom. Write a little bit about you in the "about me".
That way we others can somewhat assess what might be to your liking. The more we can know about you, the higher the chances that recommendations are actually to your liking.

Another thing you can do is look at other user's profiles, favourites and lists - some have a short text for each entry in the "tags" field, that way I found myself quite some anime titles I want to watch / have watched. Or you could just follow a topic that asks for sth. you think you'll like, too in the "requesting recommendations" forum section.
To create a new topic there yourself, once again it will be more successful the more we can know about you, and the more specific you are with what you want.

Just play around with the functions MAL provides for your profile + anime list, most will explain themselves by trying them out. And everything can be un-done.

Hi,
No, I don't know that Show, not yet. I did not even know if Air is the real name or an Abbreviation for a longer title. :D

One easy way is to include [spoilers] in a topics title, when a topic's nature is so that discussion won't be possible without spoilers everywhere. Then nobody needs to put things in spoilers within that topic, as everybody already knows : spoilers everywhere.
Like : [spoilers] some questions about so-so, but please not like : [spoilers] does main character really die in episode 07 ? :p

To create single spoiler thingy in a post
just write
[spoiler] then the spoilerish text and then [/spoiler]

That will result in

You can also use spoilers to hide say a collection of big pictures, so those who are interested can look them up, those who are not interested can scroll past faster.

generally, when writing a post, open the BBCode help link at the bottom of the editing field to see help for formatting text, embedding youtube video etc.
