The movie takes place in the 21st century, while the series takes place a few hundred / few thousands years later. (No real timeline given.)
Lazy writing made them recycle characters instead of creating a cast of ancestors. It definitely butchered a lot in that regard. Although I took it a symbolic gesture of why Euerka was important to the Coralians of the series timeline.

It's about how humans left the earth.
How the corellians came to earth.
How shit happened...ect ect.
Definitely not well done in the regards of a timeline.
IIRC the director wanted something that was accessible to both new fans and would reach to older fans. Clearly....it didn't jive to his vision. -laughs-

You do realize the Pocket Full of Rainbows is a prequel to the series, right?
