Consider checking out Kawa no Hikari. It's very similar to Ponpoko.

Thanks. Amiability is always appreciated. I watched it. Pretty good.

Hello, there. You have commented on a Osamu Tezuka short film called Memory. Where did you watch it, if you will?

Nice programming screenshots. It's strange shows never use syntax highlighting. It always makes things look more cryptic, albeit cooler.

You should check out Tanoshii Muumin Ikka (1990). It is a masterpiece and the best adaptation of the original chapter books, but sadly, only 24 out of 78 of the episodes have been fansubbed in English. I think you could find all of them fansubbed in Russian though. The 1990 series tend to be faithful to Tove Jansson's source material most of the time but not always, yet Tove Jansson (the original creator) reportedly loved it.

Ihatov Gensou: Kenji no Haru ("Spring and Chaos") was the best anime film I've ever seen. It's the Tarkovsky of anime. Its poetic depth was incredible. I'm going to read Kenji Miyazawa's poetry after watching this.

I watched an interview, skimmed his Wiki, and watched a short biography to make sure I got the nuances of the film. I'll rewatch Ginga Tetsudou no Yoru tonight.

I found a perfect quote to describe Spring and Chaos:

"Yet even these poems can never attain to any wide popularity, nor can they ever have much weight with practical intelligences that shun the evanescent world of revery where the real and the unreal meet and blend together in indistinguishable twilight. For this atmosphere is one of indulgent brooding; their warp and woof are of the stuff of dreams woven by a mind that turns from the actual issues of life as a naked body cowers from the wind. The world is seen through a haze of abstraction, glimmeringly, as a landscape looms misty and vague through the falling, fluttering veil of the rain. Indeed it is noteworthy, how many of the poems descriptive of nature..." - cool passage from a review on Arthur Symons

My favorite Russian poem, by the way, is Osip Mandelstam's "The sea-shell".

Is Aoi Blink as heartfelt as Unico?

If you ever feel like playing games, I recommend checking out Earthbound (Mother 2) and Mother 3. Something tells me you'd love them based off your tastes.

Have you ever watched Andrei Tarkovsky's films? Offret, Zerkalo, and Stalker were very good films. His father was also a good poet.

I was born in America but from Persian immigrants.

I think a lot of Japanese anime and rpgs tend to be more Gnostic... Xenogears in particular with one of the central "characters" resembling the demiurge. Shin Megami Tensei 2 and 3 are other examples.

Are you by any chance Christian?

Also, it's pretty awesome you can read Tolstoy, Chekhov, and Dostoevsky in the original Russian! I love their fiction.

" in [the Heidi] WMT adaptation all the mentions of Christianity has been replaced or removed"

Not true. Remember the German psalm in the WMT adaptation of Heidi?

http://enominepatris.com/deutschtum/musik/Die%20gueldne%20Sonne.htm

Heidi read that to Peter's grandmother in the anime.

It's a good psalm. Has a strong Zoroastrian feel to it.

The new design is sort of weird, but I didn't really dislike it by itself. Unfortunately, it looks terrible in motion. I guess we'll have to see about the rest, there doesn't seem to be many of the original staff involved. It looks like a one-shot Cartoon Networks special rather than any sort of an actual attempt at reviving the whole thing.
