All around great soundtrack picks, especially the Hide and Seek OST from Reverie.

Reverie really did have some stellar dungeon themes in particular. Looking forward to doing this for Daybreak 2 once that comes around in a couple months!

Nice. I'm just glad you didn't start the Trails games at Cold Steel 3, I know a guy who did that and it's so cursed (though he says he enjoyed it all the same so I guess it's fine). I bet someday someone will actually start the Trails series on Daybreak, that's a scary thing to say. O.O

Yeah, I knew at very least that CS1-2 was an okay starting point. People just warned me to go to the earlier ones (or at least read a summary) before proceeding with CS3.
That's really wild that someone started with CS3; you miss every reference! :O At least with going CS1-2 -> CS3 that a few of my friends did, you'll at least get the Rean portion. Good thing it worked out.
Honestly, starting with Daybreak wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. You'll miss out on the cameos and references to events that occurred in past events, but it's at least somewhat self-contained. Would be far from optimal, but starting with Crossbell or CS3 would easily be worse, imo. Probably the worst thing about starting with Daybreak would be getting used to the combat there and then having to adjust to combat before that game, haha.

I'll admit that I thought I scared you away with the long-winded comment lol. But it's fine if you reply whenever, whatever works for you.

Haha, don't worry about that. I'm no stranger to having some loooong comments with some others on MAL. I definitely welcome it! My response time can just vary, especially like recently where life stuff burned me out.

Wow, that's a funny coincidence that the videos got taken down after I linked them. I think they were Get Over the Barrier! and Mystic Core?
EDIT: Okay, I think I just probably messed up the link when I first posted the other comment oops lol.

Oh snazzy, both of those are real jams! Matter of fact, you'll be seeing one of those in a moment. :D
Anyway, I've kept you in suspense for long enough. Here are my favs per arc:

It definitely was a blast to go through all the sound tracks again! Sooooooo many good ones!

Interesting. When did you play the Sky series? Because it seems like to me people who play Sky later after Cold Steel usually have it lower on their list, it's always fascinating to see that. Makes me wonder if I would been the same if I played it later too. If I didn't rank the Sky games in this I would probably put Daybreak and Reverie at the top too, such awesome games with fun new main characters. xD

As you saw above, "Atrocious Raid" got me into the Trails games, so I indeed did start with Cold Steel. My play order was:
CS > CS2 > Sky Trilogy > Crossbell Duology > CS3 > CS4 > Reverie > Daybreak
Other than the first two CS games, I did at least play everything else in the correct order. Regardless, I honestly do think pretty highly of the Sky games! Just happen to like some of the other games more.

Apologies, life sorta hit me with quite the chaotic storm last month and the last few weeks finally caught up to me. Hosted a friend from out of town for 1.5 weeks, had a surgical procedure, and some other things. The fatigue finally set in and I just needed a break from a bunch of things to physically and mentally refresh, haha.

If I had to pick my top 3 from each series it would be:
Trails in the Sky: (1) (2) (3)
Crossbell: (1) (2) (3)
Trails of Cold Steel: (1) (2) (3)
Reverie: (1)
Trails through Daybreak: (1) (2) (3)

Oooh, very nice picks! I can't seem to access your first two Crossbell ones though. Which ones are they by their names? I'll know them from just seeing those.
There are sooo many good tracks, so limiting to only 3 per saga will be tough! I think I have a good idea for the Sky and Crossbell games, but I'll need to review the CS, Reverie, and Daybreak ones again. I'll link you with my favs next time I respond.

But what about your favorite Trails games in order of best? My list would go the following:
1.) Trails in the Sky SC
2.) Trails in the Sky FC
3.) Trails through Daybreak I
4.) Trails into Reverie
5.) Trails in the Sky the 3rd
6.) Trails of Cold Steel 2
7.) Trails of Cold Steel 4
8.) Zero no Kiseki Kai
9.) Ao no Kiseki Kai
10.) Trails of Cold Steel 1
11.) Trails of Cold Steel 3

Ah, fascinating. We definitely have different opinions here, haha.
My order of fav games are:
1. Trails through Daybreak
2. Trails into Reverie
3. Trails to Azure
4. Trails from Zero
5. Trails in the Sky the 3rd
6. Trails in the Sky SC
7. Trails of Cold Steel 3
8. Trails in the Sky FC
9. Trails of Cold Steel
10. Trails of Cold Steel 4
11. Trails of Cold Steel 2

I mainly find it pretty amusing that we enjoyed the CS games in exactly the opposite order, lmao. xD
Not sure if Daybreak is actually my favorite since it simply may be influenced by being the most recent one I played. Nonetheless, gameplay was so insanely enjoyable and I really liked the story and characters too, so it honestly might be there.

I haven't played Nayuta: Boundless Trails yet but I probably should, if I remember right, it's very loosely connected to Trails? Me myself, I was thinking about getting into the Ys series but I might have to hold off on that again with how close Daybreak II will be coming out. :P

I've only played Ys 8 from the series. Game is soooo insanely fun! Been meaning to play more of those eventually. But yeah, with Daybreak II so soon, I'll probably opt for a one-off like Nayuta or Tokyo Xanadu next.

It's because it is. I was a really big fan of Kumo desu ga, Nani ka? when it was still being translated, good times. =)

Same! I started reading back in 2022, I still haven't continued the 16th volume (last). I wanna read it but I seem to be too lazy!

It's also got some really nice music unique to it's game. (1) (2)

Oh yeah, all the Trails games are loaded with bangers! I absolutely do love those Crossbell ones! What are your favorite tracks across all the games?

Still hype as heck though, makes me really want to play the fan-translated version of Daybreak II just so I can chip away at this excitement. :D

Haha, yeah, can definitely relate! I do have other things to tackle, so I am perfectly content waiting though. Have you played the Nayuta: Boundless Trails yet? I still haven't. May be one of the next games I check out once I'm done with the current one I'm going through.
AceDvazz Oct 21, 5:23 PM
Yeah, I wasn't really feeling any of the main cast from Crossbell, except maybe Randy and Tio. Though in my defense I was playing it right after the high of Sky, nothing can top that so maybe I compared the games unfairly. I need to replay it someday, definitely with the new version.

I see. Crossbell super clicked for me in large part due to the police/detective setting, the cohesiveness of the SSS, and just the story in general. But like I said, Sky isn't very far behind for me. Honestly, the only games I didn't super enjoy were most of CS2 and notable portions of CS4.

Agreed, but I do feel it wasn't as bad with the first two games, after that it just became too much. Though Juna character development was nice, especially after the Crossbell part.

It honestly felt too big for me when Crow and Millium joined Class 7 midway through CS1. I think they realized when they went to CS3 since new class 7 was much more reasonably sized, especially with the vast number of returning characters.

Uhh, I already knew about that spoiler (I found out when I looked through his wiki, thinking he hasn't shown up in forever so I should be safe to grab his sprites but noo ;-;) but you might want to watch out that you don't blurt that out to other people who aren't in the know, I am hyped though. :O

But that's the only spoiler I know of so far so let's not talk about Daybreak II or III for now.

Oh right, I wasn't really thinking about that since I am one of those people that dodges new game trailers/previews like a plague if I know I'm going to play the game for sure. So I sorta just assumed people just knew he's gonna be there just because he's on the game cover. But yeah, I shouldn't assume everyone has seen the game cover.

So yep, I'll steer clear of mentioning anything further about those two games (I admittedly don't know much about 3 beyond what's on the cover anyway xD).
ReSeinen Oct 21, 11:28 AM
The next part is good as well, it establishes a lot of important things for the 5th, tell me how you like it once you read it!
ReSeinen Oct 20, 7:51 PM
I also like Muraoka but just you wait, cause he's just a stepping stone in what is the definitive villain of Kaiji. It's good to see Fukumoto lean into the flaws of Kaiji's character, he hasn't really "grown" that much all things considered, he still falls for gambling matches clearly stacked against his favor, just like how he blew all his money before meeting his friends after defeating The Bog (a black suit pitied him so much he handed him money). It makes for all the more interesting comebacks, rising up against all odds.
ReSeinen Oct 20, 7:21 PM
It sort of does, especially since some of the songs that make the OST are composed entirely out of Zawas lmao

Now I kind of want to see Kaiji play UNO since I'm starved of Kaiji content because the hiatus for the current part hasn't stopped
