Boku no Hero Academia 2nd Season
From the beautifully animated action sequences to the memorable OST, everything about Season 2 was perfect. Each arc was presented with its own sense for the season, the hype of the tournament arc, the day to day of the internships, and the intensity when the villains finally showed up. The season left you wanting more each week, and would of definitly been something worth binge watching. Lets not forget, each character had their own unique set of personalities, traits, struggles, and stories, making all of them one of a kind. Overall this was definitly my favorite anime of 2017. "TOOOOUUUUURRRRRRNNNNAAAAMMMEEEENNNTTT ARRRRRCCC!!!" -Gigguk
New Game!! Senpai no Suzukaze Aoba dayo, yoroshiku ne. New Game!! was probably my most looked forward to anime of the entire year. Loved season 1 and everything about it. Season 2 continues the story from season 1, adding more drama, new characters, and all the more entertaining. New Game's art style is moe, very moe, very cute, it cures cancer at this point. The story continues on from season 1, as Aoba finally becomes a character designer, and we see through the story how she continues to work hard and interact with others. This is definitly one of my favorite anime, from the cute feels good story, to the relatable CS moments Nenecchi faces, every episode brings a smile to my face. The OP and ED for the series are both very fitting, with having 2 endings, changing to the latter with the introduction of new characters, quickly became one of my top endings. New Game!! definitly lived up to my expectations, and with an ending that was both happy and sad, I hope we get a season 3.
Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon
KyoAni? Check. Cute girls? Check. Maids? Check.Lolis? Check. Action? Check.
Kobayashi's Dragon Maid is a slice of life about...well her Maid Tohru, who happens to be a dragon. The day to day life of Kobayashi was repetitive until one day she drunkenly missed her train stop (low-key same), and stumbled into the forest where she met a dragon, and the rest is history. This was probably one of my favorite SoL from the year, just because of how nicely animated it was (comparing to the manga), and all the cute moments that come into the anime. The characters were all lovable, the plot was simple and fun, and there were many moments that were too relatable (looking at Elma and her indecisiveness). The OST, however simple, was memorable, and very relaxing to listen to. With a fun ending to close each brilliant episode, Kobayashi's Dragon Maid is definitly one of the top. Ravioli Ravioli don't lewd the dragon loli.
Tsuki ga Kirei
Tsuki ga Kirei was one of those shows that I started when it was nearly halfway through the season. Although I overlooked it at the start, it became one of my favorites. It was pure, simple, and most importantly, realistic. It portrayed the cuteness and awkwardness of childhood love, showing both struggles the main characters might face, and how they overcome it. There was nothing overly dramatic or intense, things that you would usually see in a drama. The art style was soft and beautiful, which perfectly reflected the themes of the anime, and how the story is. The pacing felt a bit slow, but maybe that's how it's suppose to be. Overall loved this anime, especially the ending, when you think that's it, but then the end credits roll.
Made in Abyss
Made in Abyss, the most talked about show of the season, at this point, who hasn't seen it? If you haven't, go change that. MIA is an example of don't judge a book by its cover, it is a very dramatic and intense adventure disguised as a cute moe children's anime. The scenery art for each level of the Abyss were beautiful, pairing that with a great OST, makes for a great experience. The story itself seemed simple at first, but then it got more and more intense, from the woman who keeps a loli trap with her at all times, to Underground Explorer Hitler, you start to realize, this was not what you'd expect. The series hits you with both comedy, and emotional moments were you just feel sad for the characters and hope it gets better for them. MIA definitly lived up to the hype and expectations surrounding it, and is definitly one of the best of the year.
Smile! Sweet! Sister! Sadistic! Surprise! Service!~~ Blend S is probably one of my favorites of the season, just because of how much enjoyment I got out of it. A cafe where each server had their own character trait to portray brings out a lot of fun day to day events. Maika, the dipsy main character, portrays the sadistic character, tries her hardest to be a good server, but always ends up being accidentally sadistic, which never fails to entertain. Every character in the show was unique, funny, and lovable. The opening (which became a meme) is pretty catchy and fun. The story was not too complicated (I mean how much can you adapt with a 4-koma manga), but each episode was fun in its own ways. The art itself was typical A-1 standard, but it was cute and consistant. This is one of those fun shows where I just love, and would definitly rewatch for fun. Was a contender for top 5 anime, but New Game!! took the spot.
KanColle Movie
Animation was even better than Season 1, story was good, got our fill of Kanmusu for the year. Definitly a favorite one, the great action sequences, character design, and OST brought out the Kanmusu back on screen once again. The movie was more on the serious side, but still retained the slice of life elements found in season 1. The story was loosely based on the Third Battle of Guadalcanal, which for history nerds like me, were glad to see how some of the ships played out (mainly Yuudachi heh). New characters for the movie were great, nice to see some new Kanmusu finally animated. Looked forward to it since its theatrical release, and it did not disappoint. It was definitly a great movie for Kancolle fans, and once again blessed with the Yuudachi Pois.
Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale
SAO is back once again, this time in a movie sequence. The animation is still on-par with the original two seasons, maybe even better. Music was a mix of new, and old from season 1 which brought out some nostalgia. The story this time was interesting, a fun concept with AR and how AR games might work in real life in the future, and the story is not without its connections to season 1, this time focusing on the lesser known players of SAO. The antagonists however felt a bit weak, and the final fight sequence was a bit over the top, but nonetheless enjoyable. A fun movie, and my first time watching an anime movie in theaters.
