Yeah, I resent _Clannad_ for being so good at being _Clannad_, if you know what I mean; it's a very specific niche of emotionally-manipulative VN chockful of tropes, but, well, it works. (At least the first time. I suspect on a second viewing, it would come off as too mechanical to hook one.)

I haven't updated MAL for a while, but I've already watched _Lustrous_ and I enjoyed it as far as it went for both the worldbuilding, animation, and kintsugi-inspired sacrifice-for-power theme - at least, as far as the anime goes, which is not very far at all. Sadly, it seems like there won't be a sequel for a long time, if ever, so I should probably look into the manga.

I watched _Tsuioku-hen_ and... I'm still not sure how I feel about it.

You are also correct that I would not like _Legend of the Galactic Heroes_. Mediocre where not awful. Possibly the most overrated anime I've watched yet. (I have a draft review of it but it's depressing to write such reviews. I didn't watch 110 episodes because I wanted to hate it, but because I kept hoping it'd somehow become good and redeem its legendary reputation.)

I have not read Deutsch's books because what I read from him on Twitter or in articles has been quite bad. He may be an expert on some quantum things but when he writes about things I know better about like AI or epistemology, I am unimpressed.

Hmm, I don't know if I would label many of my favorite anime as "high-brow". The only ones that come to mind are Welcome To The NHK and Death Note both of which are pretty serious character studies. Honestly I'm just a guy who's drawn to cutesy "moe" girls, so those are the type of shows I seek out mostly. Of course a compelling story is also important, but for the ultimate escapist fantasy there has to be some waifu material. I think the Monogatari series strikes that ideal balance of cuteness, intrigue, drama, fanservice , visual style and humor that I'm looking for. I'm currently rewatching Owarimonogatari and it's hitting me a lot harder than the first time I saw it. I'll be writing a review for it in the near future.

My favorite story of all time is Umineko No Naku Koro Ni (the visual novel, not the anime adaptation). It's a very unique and intricate meta murder mystery. That's probably the one visual novel I would dare call high-brow due to its length and complexity. Other than that, I also like VNs made by Key (Clannad, Little Busters, Rewrite), although you could say those are more moe than high-brow.

As for light novels and manga, I enjoy the Black Bullet light novels (unfortunately on hiatus) and the Dance in the Vampire Bund and Gantz mangas. All of those have many of the same elements that I enjoy in the Monogatari series.

Hey there, glad you enjoyed Nisemonogatari. I found it very fun as well, although I wouldn't watch it with my siblings for some obvious reasons. I've self-taught myself some Japanese for a couple years now, but I wouldn't say I'm quite fluent yet. I know how to read katakana and hiragana, plus I've memorized a few hundred kanji (you need to know about 2000 kanji to be fluent). Anyway, who's your favorite character in the Monogatari series? Mine is Shinobu.

Well I guess what I did like about LOGH is that it just a grandiose anime; an epic space opera with massive amount of episodes to present its setting/conflict, covering on what's going on both perspective of the war participants both physically and historically, had a lot of memorable cast with two of most charismatic military general in all anime. Sure, the battle was way too simplistic and a lot of the generals was absolutely braindead compared to Yang or Reinhard and seemed present to making those too looking genius but as the saying goes "The Strong weaken the weaker."
I just feel like there's not a lot of anime like this and it was ambitious enough for me to overlook the negative points of it. Bonus point as well for having a conclusive ending because I'm just getting tired with "go read the manga" ending which, pretty much plagues many anime nowadays.

There's actually some story for Kenshin OVA so pardon me, it is actually one of the few anime that I had actually watched twice. First when I was watching it alone for the first time and I actually did liked it, and but the second time I watched it as a group viewing with my friends I just got really annoyed by the many amount of flashback and it just felt overdramatic. thus I just kinda feel to lower the score.

Well there's no good taste or bad taste when it comes to entertainment and happy holidays too.

Haha a 7 from me actually might mean the series is worth it. In this case, I would say that Haikyuu is worth it- probably has to do with how I prefer the manga. It's 6's and lower that usually mean something isn't worth it with my scores. I'm not so sure you'd like Eden, actually! Although I do like it myself, I have doubts that you would hm.

Hey man, sorry for the late response. I haven't really been using MAL lately, and it's even less common for me to look at my profile lol. That Tatami Galaxy review was awful! I'm surprised you liked it at all haha, looking back it's a generic high school essay. Actually some of my scores are a bit outdated so take them with a grain of salt! The Tatami Galaxy would honestly probably be a 10 if I re-watched it, for example.

Anyways, regarding Chihayafuru, yeah I expected to like it too but it didn't click. It's been probably over a year since I tried it so I can't be less vague than that. And yeah, I heard Hitman takes a lot of episodes to get good (like 33? 23? something like that), and Wolf's Rain was suggested to me by an IRL friend whose taste I don't really agree with too much so it's not too high on my list. I haven't seen Kaiba but maybe I could bump it up higher on my PTW list. I'm taking a bit of a break from anime right now, been catching up on some HBO dramas I've meant to watch (namely The Wire and True Detective) so if I get around to Kaiba I'll let you know what I think... just expect it to be a while. Based on what I've read about it I suspect it to be a 7-8, though.
