I understand that her struggles are exaggerated to the point of comedy (social anxiety is not fun, AL ALL) but why would anyone laugh at someone's struggles when they don't relate to them one bit? To add to this, I've seen a number of people who didn't like the show say that the character is badly written and her character comes off as "unbelievable". When people don't relate to a character, they fail to understand the underlying reasons for their behavior and it comes off as weird and unrealistic to them. And that's the thing. Her portrayal of social anxiety is relatable because it affects her in ways we can understand. This is why I think the few people who related to Bocchi (or to any of the characters) loved the show while many other people consider it an average SOL. If you'd ask me to tell you a character written more for the laughs than portraying actual social problems, it would be Komi from Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu.
You're the first person I've seen saying Bocchi wasn't written to be a relatable character. Regardless, she's one of the most relatable characters we've seen in anime. I, like many other fans of the show, like her because of her struggle with social anxiety. I don't get what you mean by "missing the point". What was the point, may I ask?
