yeah it did not end at all like I expected it too. Way too happy (especially with Masayuki's family), rushed, and the thing with the lab was kinda just left there. all of the horror elements were pretty much lost by the end too. what did you think about it? like the end, or in general
EnchantedHeart Dec 16, 2021 11:07 PM
Appreciate you getting back to me, I'm glad it turned out to be a good watch for you.
ponpokorin Dec 16, 2021 5:34 PM
yeah, I started watching it because I heard it was a surprisingly good kids anime and it actually is, some of the episodes are less interesting but they still contribute to the world building & mystery which is the main draw of the show. i definitely recommend if you like sci-fi or mystery :)
EnchantedHeart Nov 3, 2021 8:57 PM
Sounds good. I'm interested to see another person's take on it.
EnchantedHeart Nov 3, 2021 12:12 AM
Yeah definitely, unless you take a break halfway through the series and need a refresher on what's happened, but otherwise you won't miss anything skipping 15-18. To be honest, the OVA was my favorite part of the show. I binged the 4 episodes in one night (which I rarely do these days) because I was eager to know what happens next. The ending might've been a hit or miss for some. I'm personally ok with it and you might be too. Depends if you're the type that thinks the ending defines the entire show but for me, the points leading up to it are just as important. It wasn't the best ending I've seen but all in all, I'm satisfied with the show and its conclusion.

Hey, I finished Wolfs Rain and thought I'd warn you about the 4 back to back recap episodes that occur from 15-18. Something must've happened during production for them to add that many unnecessary recaps at a crucial point of the story. The ending felt rushed because of that. I now I see why there's a 4 episode sequel, it's most likely gonna make up for the recaps. Here's hoping it has a satisfying conclusion.

No problem. Yes, I will definitely give the OVA a watch too.

Heya, so far I'm enjoying it. The ost is amazing and the ending song is so fitting. I actually found out about Wolf's Rain by listening to one of the songs beforehand. When looking up the show I was shocked at how underrated it is. Anyway, I'm not very good at talking about the plot without spoiling but I will say it got me hooked from the first episode. The mystery is well done because there are times when I don't fully understand what's going but not to the point where I feel completely lost/bored. I continue watching because I actually want to uncover the whole mystery and find out what awaits the wolves at the end of their journey. The characters aren't bland and one-dimensional, they each bring something meaningful to the story. Visually it's gorgeous especially considering it's been nearly 20 years since its release. The first half has been a great watch and I hope the same is true for the second half.

At the moment I'd rate it as an 8/10. It may go up or down depending on how the ending plays out.

Hmm, of the ones I've checked out, I'd probably only recommend takt.op destiny for the great visuals, the others I've checked out are all average to mediocre. there are some I haven't gotten too yet though lol. Also maybe blue period, I liked the first episode despite its pacing issues but manga readers have been saying it isn't a good adaptation, so i'm not sure on that one. Tbh I haven't been watching that much lately lol

oh yeah I've been meaning to read the manga for that, glad you liked it. imo it had the perfect atmosphere for a historical anime

That's great to hear :) You're making me more excited to watch hehe.

Hmmm, I'll prioritize Erin then. Yeah, I've heard of Seirei no Moribito. Okay, thanks for the comments. I'll probably put Gunbuster in the back log then.

Natsume Yuujinchou is fantastic! It's something like if Aria and Mushishi had a baby, though it unfortunately doesn't surpass either. Natsume is a really compelling MC that has great chemistry with the rest of the likeable cast. The soundtrack and atomsphere are memorable as well, and the way the show weaves lighthearted comedic moments with nostalgia, wistfulness, and pure raw emotion is phenomenal. Speaking of which, if my profile isn't enough of a reminder, you really should try ARIA sometime (always begin with Animation!). It's an experience like no other.

Hey! It's been a while. Romeo and the Black Brothers is great so far. Alfredo and Romeo form an interesting duo, each episode manages to be both heart-wrenching and exciting, the soundtrack is solid, and the thematic exploration of friendship, maturity, and perspective have been really well-done so far.

I'm thinking of starting Anne of the Green Gables sometime soon. How was it?

On a side note, I've made it my goal to watch at least five >#1000 popularity shows in a row, so I'm deciding Beastplayer Erin, Kaleido Star (since it's directed by Sato Junichi), Akachan to Boku, Spacebattleship Yamato 2199, Space Brothers, Gunbuster, and Hyouge Mono. Have you watched/liked any of them?

Actually, I started watching it a long time ago but until now I never managed to find everything after the first two episodes. I already loved it back then and now that I can finally watch the rest, I can say I still do ! The setting is beautiful, I love the story and the characters, and Phos alone is enough to make me love it (I always had a soft spot for this little one). If it keeps being this good it definitely has all its chances to make it to my favorites.

As for Humanity has Declined, I have more mixed feelings. I really like some aspects of it like the fantasy setting, Watashi's dry but caring personality and the darker messages behind the cute characters, but aside from Watashi, I don't have much interest in any of the characters, so I have a hard time feeling truly invested. I also feel like the show could do more with what it has but I still have the entire second half left so I'm not want to be too harsh.

Also, I see that you added Seirei no Moribito to your favorites, that's great ! I really should get back to it.

Yes! I'm very excited to see that film. It's been a while since I've watched the Patlabor TV series. But from memory, I very much enjoyed it. It's not as airtight nor magnetic as the films, but it carries a lot of the downtime and witty character writing from the OVA. It's very similar to something like Urusei Yatsura. That's mainly because its creative direction was spearheaded by Kazunori Ito, who wrote a large majority of both works. If you, like me, think Patlabor's cast to be one of the greatest in anime, I can't recommend it enough. Even if you liked the films for their sociopolitical musings, I'd still recommend you at least try the TV show. Though just don't expect it to be similar to the films at all.

Yeah, hopefully I'll like it more. Thanks for being civil and not ripping into me for not liking an anime you did. People in the anime community can be insane lol

also I've been planning to read ashita no joe, in your opinion does it live up to its reputation?
ponpokorin Aug 17, 2021 7:02 PM
Well I didn't hate it or think it was bad, but to me it was just average. From the high acclaim it got, I thought it would be more narrative/character focused, but there was more time spent on action which I found stale (not that I don't like action in itself, but Vinland Saga's specifically was unrealistic and pretty boring imo). Imo, the story was just ok, and the characters were pretty poor, besides Askeladd at least. I also thought that the philosophy conversations were usually bs. It wasn't bad, but I didn't find it impressive at all (except for the backgrounds lol those were beautiful). But I respect people who could see something in it that I can't.

Although, since the first season is apparently just the prologue to set up the main story, I'll probably have a higher opinion of any future seasons, or the manga if I decide to read it.
