That's fair. The series suffered from the pacing mostly because of the one-offs, after all. I didn't know who Yoshinari was (as I typically don't research the people behind the scenes) but after a quick Google search, it seems he went outside his area of expertise on this particular show.

Most of the criticisms in your Little Witch Academia review was right on the money, but there was one opinion that I disagreed with. You stated that the episodic parts of the show fell flat because it gave time to irrelevent characters and didn't contribute to the main story. The characters themselves are supposed to be important - the episodes dedicated themselves to fleshing out the characters by revealing their desires and motivations. Even if they don't contribute to the main storyline, they are important to Akko and important in and of themselves.
You also mentioned how all of the supporting cast with the exception of Diana was one-dimensional, which isn't totally wrong but I think the characters were a bit more complex than you gave them credit for. Characters like Constanze and Lotte develop, although their development isn't anything major Of course, most of them were underdeveloped and weren't fleshed out properly, so they end up as fairly shallow characters.
But otherwise yeah. The pacing was pretty inconsistent. The main conflict was rushed and introduced too late and many aspects of the world didn't get the focus they needed and there were numerous plot contrivances. To be fair though, they probably could have done better if there were more episodes...although the ones they made could have been executed better.

Whoa dude, that was awesome review on little witch academia, although I enjoyed it a lot, but when I read your review, I Understood what all the flaws it had. I think it must be due to your previous experience with princess tutu and magical anime. Since for me I watch them less, this was a thrilling experience for me. Anyways I don't criticise your review cos what's the use if the anime teaches you false ideals. Perhaps this was meant only for entertainment like guren lagan
