Yes they're important, even though there's nothing plot heavy going on in those volumes there's still heavy character Development and interactions you need to see, the author also likes to introduce some characters in those novels so yeah you should totally read them.

First off, I'm not an expert. Neither do I want to be. The people on MyAnimeList that are deemed "experts" have absurdly low mean scores and write pretentious nonsense to make their reviews longer. I believe an average anime watcher, who has watched 100-150 anime, shouldn't have a 9 or 10. I rate anime based on their story, art, sound, characters, and enjoyment. Most people would simply put their favorite anime(s) at 10 and their least favorite(s) at 1. Sword Art Online is one of my favorite anime series, but each individual season has flaws. For example, the first season introduced the Fairy Dance Arc, which was pretty stupid. Here's my general criteria for each rating:

10: Perfect in every aspect.
9: Amazing.
8: Really good.
7: Good.
6: Decent.
5: Average.
4: Bad.
3: Really bad.
2: Horrible
1: Physically sickening to watch.

The main reason why my mean score is so low is because I like watching the complete anime series instead of only watching the seasons. That includes OVAs and movies. I'm currently watching the Dragon Ball series, and these movies are awful.

Apologies for the late reply, Thank you for the birthday wish. And, as a fairy tail fan, i presume you would like my old profile better. Its at the bottom of my current profile. That being said, im kind of surprised someone liked my reviews. I dont think i do a passable job writing reviews. I like writing and here and there have written some stuff but reviews has not been a good forte for me, still having you read them, i really appreciate you taking your time to write it to me. do you mean the monogatari series? i’ve scored mostly every other anime that has multiple seasons to it, for monogatari i didn’t score the rest because i’m reading the LNs right now and i’m rating based on how well the anime adapted from them
