Yeah "debating" stuff that I'll never be able to change or even affect me(lgbt, abortion, immigration, racism, etc etc in west/east/middle east) was boring at best and mentally deranging at worst so I just dropped completely out of reddit and use MAL for anime(not as often) and sometimes casual forums
And posting stuff on internet is just boring

Well it's up to you, as I said there are some examples but it would be spoilers. Anyways, have a good day.

The father figure is just a blatant rip-off, lol. You have some people on youtube, reddit, and on here, who keep claiming that this is the best socio-political anime of all time. It makes me laugh. "Socio-political".... hahah. How many socio-political anime, movies, or literary books have these people consumed? Do they even know what this means?

Also, that whole scene with Armin and Erwin (MASSIVE SPOILER) also stretches belief. Somehow, we are supposed to believe that both characters ended up in that situation (you know...) to allow for a nice little conflict.... A million things could have gone wrong... That scene was so forced. But, hey, what do I or we know?

Fanboys will always tell you that everything was foreshadowed and developed organically. Beating astronomical odds is also perfectly acceptable. Memory wipes (not an asspull)... *Rolls eyes* Anyone can create new plot elements and then say that old scenes were "clues". I feel like going back and giving AoT an even lower score now... lol

I gave it a 7/10, but praisethesun felt like I needed to be educated. 7 is a good score. Just ignore him.

It's clear that the meteoric rise to fame was completely unexpected by the mangaka. I suspect that many plot elements were added afterwards. I highly doubt he intended for the series to go on for this long. There are lots of asspulls, and AoT's universe just exploded like an exponential (with more and more asspuls and "complexity"). Many of the characters have immense plot armour and survive just for the sake of progression. I don't want to point out anything too specific, as it might spoil something for someone who is reading this.

"I don’t think they HAD to move in this direction no matter what, and yet they needlessly locked themselves into the most fairytale like route and completely..." I 100% agree.

Even in season 1, my theory about how those titans outside originated was bang on. I saw it from a mile away. This whole thing tried to go down a LOTR (Lord of ..) route, and tried to forcefully build a superficial universe with lame politics.

Some people are unwilling to accept flaws and clichés. Hell, even I can accept the flaws in my favourite anime.

Also, the mysterious father figure who has a crucial role (Eren's dad, and Father) ... the prodigy captain (Levi/ Colone Mustang)... shady politics (also in FMAB). AoT actually took some inspiration from FMAB, lol!

I can definitely get over your reasoning, not everyone likes the change in tone. But there are a few things I want to make clear:

The thing is that it doesn't come out anywhere. One thing that is so notorious about AoT is how crazy the foreshadowing is. If you read/watch everything that has been published and then decide to watch it again, you can see all the hints of the tonal change. Of course, many scenes don't make sense the first time, but after rewatching them, one realizes that everything in the series was planned from the beginning.

Another problem I see is that it seems like you expected AoT to be a somewhat realistic series (there's nothing wrong with that). But as I mentioned before, all those elements of fantasy were present from the first episode, it's just that they are imperceptible unless you've watched all the episodes.

I would give you some examples of said foreshadowing, but most of it will spoil the final season for you, so I will refrain from doing that.

The thread got locked while I was writing so here's what I meant with that statement:

Attack on Titan by far. Not that FMA:B is bad, but it definitely lacks ambition (which is why FMA 03 is better).

What does that mean exactly? In what sense?

I mean that it simply doesn't peak higher than other series. It stays consistent with its tone during all the course. Essentially, it plays safe (which is why I think is so well liked).

With ambition I mean series that subvert your expectations (in a good way), making you to change the entire view you had upon them. See Evangelion, Berserk, Steins;Gate, etc... They all do this in a way or another. And AoT precisely does that with the whole basement reveal and every that comes after.

FMA 03 also does this. Character are pushed to situations that would be unthinkable in Brotherhood, giving the show a more varied, and overall, a better tone imo (it also plays a factor which version do you watch first).
It’s time to ditch the text file.
