Just a few things about myself. Though I had seen some anime like Pokemon and Speed Racer before it, the anime that got me into anime was Cardcaptor Sakura. I have now seen over 300 different anime, ranging from romance to comedy and action (but not hentai). I love God and enjoy hanging out with friends, playing video games, and watching baseball (Braves fan here).
When it comes to watching anime, my personal rule that I try to adhere to is that I must have legal access to the anime. Most of my anime watching is done via online streaming (mostly on Funimation and Hidive) and DVD.
*Note: There are some series on my anime list that I have listed as "Completed" even though I have not watched all of the listed episodes. Both Air and Amagi Brilliant Park are list as having 13 episodes. However, only the first 12 episodes have been licensed, with the 12th episode being the end of the series and the 13th episode being an extra. Therefore, I have listed them both as "Completed" rather than putting them under "On Hold" or "Dropped" due to 1 episode that is legally unavailable. Also, there are a few episodes of Pokémon that are unavailable, but I placed it as "Completed" since I have watched the other episodes.
Scoring:
Grade Distribution:
Personal Enjoyment: 100%
I don't base my scores on any average of scores for story, art, characters, impact, etc., though these usually do impact how much I enjoy a show. However, how I would distribute certain categories would not be consistent with every show. For instance, I don't place as much emphasis on story for comedies as I would for most other genres. Also, I don't at all consider the anime's impact in the industry when I grade. Nothing is protected by the "but it's a classic and should be remembered as such" argument.
Let me also remind you (or bring to your attention) that a review is based on one's opinion. A term I usually see in reviews is "objectively", as if to suggest that the review is fact and separate from the author's actual feelings on the show. This makes little sense to me, since grading things like the quality of the art and the story depends on what the reviewer thinks great art or a great story should be, which is entirely based on opinion. Otherwise, one wouldn't see such varying critiques of the same anime while also claiming to be looking at it "objectively". I just don't like the idea of giving a show a higher grade than another show that I liked more, even if the belief of the anime community at large says otherwise.
With a few exceptions, I usually don't give scores to shows until I have completed them. I think that the score should reflect the show as a whole, so giving a score to a show that I haven't completed, even the unimpressive shows that I have dropped, is something I usually try not to do unless I know with little doubt what to expect from the rest of it.
Highly Recommended - I found these very enjoyable
10 - Amazing (labeled as "Masterpiece" on MAL) - These are my absolute favorites. No, I am not saying that they are perfect. These are the anime that I would place on a pedestal, for they stood out amongst all the other anime I have seen.
9 - Outstanding (labeled as "Great" on MAL) - These were excellent watches with very little that prevented me from enjoying them. Highly memorable.
8 - Very Good - These are very solid anime. They might not have had that extra special "something" for me to give them a '9', but they were still highly enjoyable watches.
They might have also had something in them that I could not ignore, preventing them from being 9's despite being highly enjoyable.
Recommended to perhaps check out - I found some enjoyment in these shows
7 - Good - I liked these shows, but they were probably either generic, lacking (in my opinion, of course) in certains areas, or just simply did not impress me as much.
6 - Fine - These were alright. I did like them more than I disliked them, but I probably will not be watching them again.
Not recommended - These did not impress me
5 - Mediocre (labeled as "Average" on MAL) - I will not go so far as to say that these were bad shows, but they certainly were not good. They were simply "meh" to me. I do not prefer the term "average", as if to suggest that this represents the middle ground of all anime, but then I do not watch every single anime out there.
4 - Bad - These were not good anime. As the opposite of what I put down for '6', there was more to dislike about these anime than like. I probably struggled to finish these anime, likely just for the sake of completing them.
Stay Away - Exactly what it says
3 - Very Bad - I would highly avoid watching these anime. Except for maybe some minor thing that keeps it from being an absolute atrocity, there are very few redeeming values in these anime.
2 - Abysmal (Labeled as "Horrible" on MAL) - There is next to nothing good about these anime. I have not given any anime this rating since I have probably dropped these shows before finishing them or have not considered watching them.
1 - What is this? (Labeled as "Appalling" on MAL)- For me to give an anime this rating, I would have to not only loathe it, but also question why it even exists in the first place.
I apologize for being so one sided with my opinion! I still need to add Tokyo Esp on here so thanks for reminding me! I'm really into Tokyo Ghoul so that's why im so defense about it lol Tokyo Ghoul will get better if it follows the manga and if it doesn't then I will probably end up liking Tokyo Esp better as an anime. I am sorry for my one sided rant and opinion!
Well haha long story...i guess i sort of watched the series in bits and pieces. i skipped parts of it and technically stopped at 21. i did watch the last episode though if thats wat u r wondering.
I've added more shows that I've seen, and we've got more than 2 animes in common ... but still not that many. Haha! We may get more in common in the near, or far, future :)
