Can I ask you what all study materials you chose for learning Japanese?
Did you catch Paranoia Agent? I finished it less than a week ago, and if you liked Lain, you'll probably like Paranoia Agent as well.
Watch anything good lately?
I honestly think this forum is a pretty constructive place to talk about politics because anime is usually so apolitical. You get a wide variety of people across the political spectrum unlike most online communities.
Man the second I heard the shinreigari op I knew it was love lol. I cant believe that's the op of an anime that came out in 2009. It sounds like something out of twin peaks or something. The psychological elements are very interesting also. I see lain as a show about identity interfacing with technology, so by that logic this is kind of like a series about trauma interfacing with the physical brain which is just kind of fascinating.
Ive never gotten the thing where people think feminists are trying to like ban porn and ecchi on mass either. I've met lots of feminists who like ecchi. Its not like other feminists hate them for it. Even the feminists I've seen who are offended by ecchi or some ecchi tropes don't seem to think it's some hugely important issue. Idk.
Cool to see Shinreigari on your favorites. I'm watching it right now and I like it a lot but I never see it talked about. One thing I like about konakas work is how different all the shows he writes are from each other. I was expecting something completely cryptic like texhnolyze but its actually more of a grounded realistic drama. I didnt expect that at all. I'm super excited to see how it ends, since every other show by this team that I've seen has had an amazing ending.
My list is so long it doesn't load the entire thing? Ah... that's scary. And eh don't worry, I think it's a good show I just don't personally enjoy it. And while not entirely related but notable, boy, do I love: "Humanity has Declined".
Well, to this day my best theory is a simple one. It looked like Mika's sould was absorbed by the wired. One of the more common conspiracy theories is that the Knights wanted to get Lain completely absorbed in the wired and somehow they missed and got Mika instead. Mika in general is a very confusing character in the series in terms of narrative. Hell, the Knights could have even drove Mika insane in hopes of drawing Lain even further into the Wired. Perhaps her changed character is supposed to be the "modem" that connects Lain even further into the Wired. Of all the people in her family, Mika seems to care the most for Lain (in her own detached way). In taking away the one person who cared for Lain (as the knights often attempted to do) the Knights hoped to make Lain abandon the real world and become one with the wired again. That's my best shot.
I see what you mean, and admittedly cannot argue against what you said.
Why yes I have! ... And do not like it haha. Okay that's not fait, I don't personally like it from aesthetics alone really, but regard it as a good show, just one I'm not very into. But I actually think it's fairly alright and I've seen the two compared A LOT so it's no wonder you bring it up. I was about to say you could have checked my list to see if I watched it--but let's be honest nobody should need to go through that entire thing...
Well it does have quite a lot going for it, I more so enjoy Utena because of Ikuhara's linear nature which, with that episode count it can pull off even better than Penguindrum, but ultimately I guess you can say I liked Penguindrum more because it's more charming for me to rewatch, whilst Utena, basically, is a much more thought provoking version of super sentai (not to down super sentai).
Similar to Eva, I'd like to believe nobody can really "understand" Lain the way the author originally intended but it's just for us to try and make sense of, and I find that exciting! Every answer just leads to another question. Me? Well, I used to identify as a optimistic nihilist, but now I don't really know what I am anymore, nor do I particularly care. in that regard, Lain obviously has touches of predictions regarding social media which is what I find rather scary, and what I found to be a concept in what you said.
