P.S. Due to the club having so many members, we aren't able to send out newsletters to all of our members. If you would like to receive newsletters from the Slice of Life Club, post here.
Our newsletters include notifications on when our competition rounds start, club event information, information on our monthly banner contest (new feature starting in September), news about updates and changes to the club, etc.
P.S.S We are in need of active card makers!
We do a few monthly editions and we really need some more card makers to help out with those. If you are interested in applying, click here.
Goddamn I feel so much better knowing I wasn't crazy since it really wasn't listed on their AMV page.
Sorry I haven't been on in so long, I got myself a job and have had no time to myself as I got myself an online teaching role for the evenings as well! :D
However, I now have two weeks to uni, and I'm just counting down the hours. Have you started uni yet? How have you been over the last few weeks?
Sorry I haven't been on for so long! I promise a nice long reply next time I log on :)
I'm back off vacation and picked up my A-level results on Thursday and beat Warwick uni's entry requirements by a grade and a whole A-level, so I'm pretty pleased. I've been busy with the whole enrollment thingy and sorting bank accounts and joining the student union which is why this reply is late, sorry :)
How have you been recently? Ready for uni yet? When do you start? I managed to pick up an American public internet connection in Boston with unbelievable DL speeds, so I spent every available minute downloading episodes which is why I didn't chat to you then. I think I picked up ~60 episodes in 720p to watch at uni.
Anyway, uni stuff is pretty exciting now over here, so I probably won't be watching any anime for a while. I need to finish 07-Ghost at some point on Crunchroll. I hate leaving shows mid-series as I forget then :P
Have you watched anything good recently? :)
Sorry I haven't been able to reply. The 'free internet' we were supposed to get wasn't free after all, and there's no way I'm forking out $40 for 24 hours of access.
Anyway, I'm writing this on my phone from the airport wifi on the way to Boston. Just thought I'd say hey.
Plus I needed to get in touch with home as England seems to be burning under all the rioting at the moment.
Anyway, hopefully I'll see you on the 17th/18th August (when I arrive home)
Keep well till then! How have you been?
3 days off is ridiculous. Mind you, I was touring York University and while visiting the accommodation at 11am, there were sports science students already drunk! I mean, I don't think I'm ever not at university at 11am! My week consists of 9-4 lab work Monday and Tuesday, then follow up lectures and seminars Wednesday-Friday as well as lab reports to complete for a 1 on 1 with a lecturer some time on the Friday. Crazy.
Haha! There's no catered accommodation over here xD .. It's all cook for yourself (if you can). It makes it cheeeaaaapp! I think it costs between £210-400 a month depending on location (which is 320-580 CAD according to google) which is pretty good going. Mind you, we get government help in paying for all this. We get our tuition fees and living expenses as loans (up to 12,200 CAD a year including both) which we don't have to pay back until we earn at least 25,000 CAD in salary. Is there anything like that in Canada? I think the US have to pay for everything themselves don't they?
How's the testing on you M17x coming along? Completely satisfied or is there a problem? And don't worry about rambling on about anything else! I love it when people get enthusiastic over something (anything!) as it's kind of contagious and makes me feel a lot better. So anything you want to rant about or show-off or anything like that, feel free!
And my cousin is going to the same uni, but she's studying a completely different course (I'm Science and she's Languages) so unless we bump into each other at student union events or societies, we shouldn't meet :P (I'm not saying I don't WANT to meet, she's brilliant! It's just that it's a large place with lots of people, so statistically it's unlikely we'll meet) ;)
How about yourself?
EDIT: Actually, the next time I will be able to reply to this I will be in America (Florida) on Sunday (unless they offer free wifi in Boston hotels (unlikely but we're only there for a few days)) so take care till then :)
Japanese sounds great! It's a shame that language modules don't count towards Science degrees over here, otherwise I might have considered it :( .. In fact, people doing my course don't get any option modules till year 2, and even then the choice is limited.
Haha! Warwick is about the same (if not slightly less) of a drive from my house too :D .. Do you have to find your own accommodation? Because for the first year over here, the universities give you a room right next to the university itself (you have to pay, but they are reserved for first year entrants). During the later years, the university has it's own accommodation office which can find rooms/houses for you. I guess it's lucky letting off your brother as everything is familiar. Are you getting family rates? ;)
Congrats on getting into that. You have to let me know what the course is like. My university runs a similar course over here, but I won't sign up till I settle in. It's just a hellova lot of money for a 30 week course :P
Are you moving into accommodation for your uni? Or is it close to your home? I know Canada is quite a big country, so I was just wondering :P .. Mine's only 2 hours away from my home but I'll still be living over by it instead of at home :)
Yeah, I looked into the text thing and it is in-text advertising or something like that. For a moment I thought it was some sort of virus on my system, so I'll ask in the forum help section. It's just hugely annoying :D
And internet speeds ARE ridiculous at uni! It's just a shame they have stupid stupid copyright laws surrounding campus connection. One copyright infringement (of even 1 song) means a 2 month disconnection and a fine of ~$200 I think. Running a torrent program is a 3 month disconnection and a $120 fine JUST for running it. Therefore I will continue to stream CR or use my current stash on my external drive (I KNEW saving them would come in useful) for the first year, and start DDL in private accommodation in the second year :)
Ahh, jogging's good fun. When I enter uni I'm going to start the couch to 5k program that our NHS currently provides. Personally I prefer playing ball sports such as tennis to keep fit (though I haven't been doing that recently).
Your vacation plan sounds perfect! ^.^ .. I'll be going to Florida with my family for 3 weeks, where I'm sure all I'll do is sit by the pool watching anime on my iPod over the wireless :D
When does your university term start? Registration over here doesn't start till October. AAAAAGGESS away, and I just want to go now! ^.^
Are some of these words hyperlinked for you? It's so annoying that adverts are cropping up into our conversation -.-
Good luck in learning Japanese! I would love to do that but wouldn't have the attention span. Are you learning to read and write as well as learning the speech?
I love new pieces of gadgetry :) .. Which laptop are you getting? My Dad's offered to buy me a new netbook for university depending on grades, so maybe I'll just ask him for the contribution towards a new laptop and chip in the rest myself. However, I don't need one. As you mention, all my problems are down to the internet providers, which is the problem I can't fix.
And the reason I can't fix it is because we're locked into a fixed term contract with 8 months left. This means if we decide to switch, we have to pay an extortionate amount of money just to terminate! Therefore it's best to wait the next 2-3 months till university, where it's wired, and so more stable. Because it's not so much the speed of our internet (which is great btw) it just can't handle downloads over ~80MB. I've got around this problem by buying 3 months on crunchyroll. That way I can stream 720p shows to my computer no worries, and get the latest shows simulcast. It's really cheap too so it's perfect for my situation ^.^
My life since I last spoke to you hasn't been particularly interesting. I tried to start up a small eBay business in buying and re-selling games for a profit, which has failed miserably. I may make a ~10-20% loss on it, so I will learn my lesson and move on.
What exercise are you doing? Are you running/jogging or joining a sports club? Are you going on holiday this summer?
I feel like my old account got too complicated so I'm starting from scratch and keeping it to a bare minimum. Plus, I will log on to this account a lot more than my old one to chat!
I needed a new account for university, so sorry for any inconvenience! (Plus now that summer and university is here, I can watch a whole lot more anime!) :)
How have you been? (and I'm going to Warwick University in response to your question forever ago).
And Itsuki is a total fag, just because he's so fabulous.
