I rate based on the overall average score in MAL 6.69, the true average rating for an anime, and go from there having little room distinguish how great something could be and a lot more for how deplorable something might be. Not ideal since, like most people I'm not as likely to rate anime that I redeem deplorable but rather than applying an arbitrary scoring scale based on what seems more helpful for me to get an accurate picture. I believe it makes more sense to base the MAL ratings on the overall scoring perspective present at the website at a given time.
Due to me mostly watching pretty good anime, I believe that my idea of an average anime is actually in reality pretty good anime. I believe is due to this reason that I have found, myself being rather harsh about ratings and have come to consider myself to be a really harsh reviewer.
