Thank you for the great review of "Kodomo no Jikan". Reading this charming manga raised many questions for me and I keep my eyes open while reading other manga to try to understand Japan's view of associating sexuality with children and tweens. Here it's OK to a degree in "high class" modeling, but anathema elsewhere. In Japan it seems to be more like a case where such associations may be freely used IN STORIES. After reading many manga of all kinds, the way I put it to myself is that the Japanese don't attempt to police what's inside people's heads, including ideas and images placed there by manga. On the other hand I'm pretty sure (but not positive) that they sternly police actual use of children for sex. I hope so, but there's no way for me to find out. That would require long direct experience of the society and how it operates.

Anyway, the result of the above liberal attitude about what's in books is a charming story of the development of a deep tie between a very smart girl and a very kind and moral sensei. It's really remarkable moving. That man is going to make a great father!
