1) sure. there are some moments that are depicted non problematically, i.e discussion of past relationships. i just dont think it outweighs the problematic stuff.

2) i.e u have to tell me about the cultural contexts because as someone who stayed and studied in japan, and as someone who bought omamoris (ie that's what the rings are called) i dont see any references asides from religious trickets that you get from a shrine and temple.

3) yes if they will deal with these issues in the next season, i'll rate it a higher score, but since i'm rating this season only, i have to judge it based on what it shows me this season. and it wasn't very good.

4) i wouldnt have minded the cramming of skate programmes if it was well executed but it wasn't. there are many reviews on myanimelist about yuri on ice from animating students, and almost all reviews from animating students mentioned how badly animated and stiff the skating is. my issue is this: I think its bad planning and execution if you're gonna cram everything, and end up producing shoddy animation; instead on focussing on one or two GOOD skating programme without compromising on quality.

5) i dont see how christopher's characterisation "broke a lot of character cliches"; he's one of the unambiguous gay characters on the show and his entry was to grab yuuri's ass. He cums on the ice. As a gay person, this is EVERYTHING that I have fought against, this idea of gay people as predatory and sexual inappropriate. I find this honestly offensive.

6) May I also point out that Mirai Nikki which is in a primetime slow also had an unambiguou gay character with an explicit gay kiss in it. The charge that im responding towards is the popular but absurd idea that Yuri on Ice broke new grounds in terms of MM relationships which for people who actually have been in the community long enough, would know much much that statement rings hollow, because we've seen more anime that did take a lot more risks, that did show unambiguous MM relationships, that did show relationships that are healthy and complex that is not that of unhealthy codependency.

She most certainly is. :) Before her I never actually liked any of female anime characters, but after watching Monogatari... Damn.
