1. Romance being a part of the anime: What used to determine whether I would watch an anime or not for over 2 years was whether it had romance or not. Thankfully not anymore but I don't regret all the great anime I've watched thanks to that. Truly heals the soul.
2. Edgy/Anti-Hero characters in the anime: When most people hear the word edgy, people think of how stupid and over the top edginess can be and the memes surrounding it. For me personally, characters that are like this are what always appealed to me. What started with being obsessed with Shadow as a kid to the character Hachiman changing my life for the better, I've always personally connected with these characters since they are like me in a lot of ways. Those with mindsets who can be seen as evil or mean but in reality can be or are proven right or just / characters who do actions that do good but use methods could be seen as evil are the best kind of characters to me. So now I'm searching for as many animes as I can that have these type of characters since they are hard to find and uncommon (recommend me some in fact lul).
While I have become less restrictive on what I am cool with getting into, what determines whether I will or not is if I find it interesting to me. What people consider a "good" series doesn't matter to me and won't be a deciding factor for anything.
Genres:
Favorite Genres: Romance
Least Favorite Genres: Yuri, Yaoi, Body Switching, Genderbending, or anything related to these.
Sub or Dub?
For me, I'm basically a sub or die kind of guy. However there are a couple of good dubs out there.
Good dubs (but either work gr8) - Dragon Ball Z and Sengoku Basara series
Mediocre dubs (Don't recommend at all but watched them in dub at the time and during my first watch of these series sadly) - SAO, DxD, & Parasyte
Rating System:
I rate things based on enjoyment / how much I liked it rather than basing my rating on what’s objectively good or bad about it (There's no actual objective taste anyway yet people are toxic about their opinions). A great example is Sword Art Online where a lot of people think it's objectively bad or mediocre yet it’s one of my favorite animes.
Played Visual Novels:
- Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel Route (Currently doing the other routes. yes ik i didn't play in the right order LOL but I was dying to see after the anime Sakura so I started there.) and Fate route.
- School Days
- Shiny Days
- Grisaia (Played decent amount/didn't finish.)
Favorite anime op: STEP by ClariS (nisekoi s1 2nd op)
Favorite anime ed: Joker ni Yoroshiku by PENGUIN RESEARCH (Durarara!!x2 Ketsu)
Jojo related:
- Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town (Jojo's 5th op) is the best Jojo op
- Part 4 is the best part. Other parts were hard to get into for me but with part 4 it was instant
- Kira Yoshkage is overrated. I can get a bit of the appeal but he's mid to me. Just was never interesting as a character but I enjoyed how he was executed when it came to the fights and events.
Fate/Stay Night:
- Heaven's Feel is the best route
- Sakura Best Girl
- Rin in the UBW anime is bland. Rin in the VN though is actually enjoyable and fun to watch (So play the vn)
- Shirou is also portrayed badly in the anime to where he seems cliche and acts like a boy scout who always wants to do good bc nice guy and survival guilt but there's much more to him for he's complex and interesting. (Another reason to play the vn, they did the major characters dirty)
- The UBW anime adaptation sucked, bc the main characters were done badly (Examples: being shriou, rin, gilgamesh). Only characters tht were done well was Archer and Illya (she was done well for the most part)
Death Note:
- Light's actions with the death note are just
- Death note op and ed 1 are good for the nostalgia factor where it hits u in the feels. op and ed 2 are top tier and bangers. tldr op 2 > op 1 free
Bunny Girl Senpai:
Op is overrated and is average. The ED tho is top tier
Darling in the Franxx (Spoilers):
Mitsuru was amazing around the beginning (he can't be blamed for the misunderstanding and no he wasn't gay. Do your research or debate me if you think otherwise) but once he lost his memories, it ruined his character.
Durarara!! (Spoilers):
Mikado in the beginning was an average character with some appeal as time went on. However, once he became dark/twisted, he became the most enjoyable character to watch.
Date A Live (Spoilers):
Kurumi isn't a terrible waifu but her clone that fell in love with Shido is top tier af. I must say other than tht, kurumi is very overrated.
Oregairu:
There are no good waifus in the series (I went from team Yui to prefering none of them). All that matters is enjoying Hachiman
Anime related:
- Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry is peak
- Dragon Ball Super Movie Broly is the best movie ever, debate me LUL
- My hero academia is overrated but decent
