Lots of stuff on my profile feels outdated, engage at your own risk, I have been away for quite some time, and not even sure I want to/will continue. Currently it is just a good time to be into anime again it seems!

My ratings explained
General rule: I rate anime based on what rating I think they deserve in their respective genre. Of course a 8 in a Slice of Life-genre can't be directly compared to a 8 in the action-genre. Both of these shows deserve a 8 for what they are on their own.
Keep that in mind!
Ratings:
1: Hard, to basically impossible, to find any redeeming qualities in this one.
(TBA)
2: Not complete garbage, but overall it is time that could have been spent better some place else.
(Black Bullet, Sword Art Online II)
3: It was still sorts of fun, while falling apart on a critical level.
(Ikkitousen, Sword Art Online, Mekakucity Actors)
4: The show's flaws outweigh its merits. It can still be a fun watch, but overall it's nothing I can recommend just like that.
(Elfen Lied, Aldnoah.Zero, Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai)
5: Something overall inoffensive. A fun time killer with several attributes that made me keep watching, and several ones that would keep me from revisiting that show.
(Mirai Nikki, No Game No Life, Zankyou No Terror)
6: An overall enjoyable and competently made show. It had me engaged and I would probably have just a few problems recommending it.
7: A good time. Very well worth the watch if you are into the genre or want to explore new territory. Certain aspects make this show stand out from your average show of its kind. Definitely worth your consideration.
(Bakemonogatari, Girls und Panzer, Shingeki no Kyojin)
8: Great stuff. Entertaining all throughout, with several memorable moments. Flaws are apparent but do not hinder the enjoyment in many ways.
(Sora No Woto, Fate/Zero, Kill La Kill)
9: Amazing. You shouldn't miss out on this one. This anime has left a huge impression on me. Worth picking up regardless of whatever preconceptions you might have towards it or the genre it is from!
10: Something that has managed to push all my buttons. It expertly uses all the elements of the medium it is a part of to tell a tale that had me on the edge of my seat to know what will come next. This show has evoked emotions in me unlike any other has, and to call it one of my favorite pieces of media would be a huge understatement. You are doing yourself a major disservice by not even considering to give this show a try, because even if you won't like it as much as I did (and that's a-okay), there are certain elements that are almost guaranteed to be enjoyed by most people, such as cinematography, shot composition, soundtrack, visual aesthetics, and so on.
(Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica)
What makes a good anime for me? (No definitive order of importance)
1.) Story
A good story for me consists of multiple categories, and not just the basic plot.
One category would be the basic structure of how the story is being presented. Is it pretty straight-forward, complex, symbolic way of presentation? Does it require/encourage reading into the lore of the series' universe, ...?
Personally I enjoy a non-episodic way of story-telling in which the whole plot is being treated in a set number of episodes, instead of the beating around the bush while we only get to see pieces of the central red thread every once in a while - keep it mind this is only opinion based. I DO enjoy series being told that way too, in general I just happen to enjoy others, if even only a bit, more.
Predictability is also a factor. How much did it get me by surprise? Were the plot twists actually good or predictable from the get-go? Was their predictability intended or not? I won't rate predictability in shows where basically nothing serious can be predicted in the first place of course, or where the intent was clearly not on sweeping you off your feet.
Aftermath: Did it make me think about stuff after a while I have finished this anime? Did scenes get stuck in my head? Did I watch scenes over and over again just to find myself to catch more things I didn't got in the previous watch, or just to try and experience emotional scenes again?
[Good examples: Ghost in the Shell, Madoka Magica, Neon Genesis Evangelion]
[Bad examples: Sword Art Online]
2.) Characters
It always comes to huge discussions when talking about characters. You either like them or dislike them, you can relate to them or you don't. In general I count the motives of the characters as well as their consistancy in their actions. For example if their behaviior is logical, or only there to get the right stuff happening when needed.
I also dislike blatant character archetypes and stereotypes, if their purpose is to either include those tropes or pander to a certain audience. Exceptions do exist, however, and even the most unassuming characters can redeem themselves in my eyes.
[Good examples: Ping Pong: The Animation, Gurren Lagann, Fate/Zero]
[Bad examples: Mirai Nikki, Aldnoah.Zero, Sword Art Online]
3.) Art and Animation
Usually I manage to find comfort with watching any style. Rarely do I ever feel repulsed by art, except for an overuse of CG or the general "samefacing" that certain studios like to give their shows.
I understand how budget works in anime and will rarely judge a TV anime by a small studio badly for the lack of polish in every scene.
Any form of inventiveness that animators bring to the table when being given the opportunity to create a piece of medium like anime, is very welcome. There are so many ways you can have scenes of characters talking be more than a shot-reverse-shot affair.
Just as the art-category this is - who could have though - solely opinion based.
I for my tastes enjoy epic orchestral background music with maybe some choral tunes underneath it. But generally everything that fits and is not overusing its few great tracks, is very welcome in my books. Bonus points if I listen to your soundtrack for years to come.
My favorite composers at the time are Yuki Kajiura, Sawano Hiroyuki, Shoji Meguro and Taku Iwasaki.
[Good examples: Madoka Magica, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, Hidamari Sketch, Sora No Woto]
[Bad examples: Bad music is rare ]

I love Trading Card Games and they are my biggest vice and money sink. I enjoy Magic: The Gathering, Flesh and Blood and Weiß Schwarz. Check them out, they are amazing!
I'm a huge fan of wanting to start doing things with my free time, but rarely end up going through. Some of my future goals are: Studying Japanese, getting good at drawing, getting physically active.
Ok, I will follow your advise, I have tried the works of Inio Asano and I think I have a different sensitivity, I respect his style how he want to express his feeling with drawings but there isn't anything in the narrative I pay interest. Maybe I will try another time.
Oh, l will watch the anime of umineko, Thanks for the recommendations!!
PS: I'm kidding about Umineko, I read the vn a few years ago and I loved it. I started to read novels in my free time after umineko and I enjoyed a lot with some Agatha Christie books, I miss the world of the vn but the vn are too long and there aren't any for me with the magic of umineko
PSS: Watch Witness for the Prosecution by Billy Wilder
Ey random guy from the internet here. You're 2 days older than me (really) and you have some similarity taste in chinese cartoon with me. What would you say to someone who dropped Oyasumi PunPun in 2 chapters for making him interested in reading it?
