In page 20 of chapter 5, the child MC thinks, in response to her mother's letter, "Come whenever you want? But I know there's no need for me to go. It's not right for me to go. If I go, it'll just be the same. I'll lose myself again." I just don't think I get the MC's thought process here. It seems we get very limited context and information on why the child was led to think in this way and what the mother wants. If you remember the manga well enough, what did you think about that moment?
Other than not getting that, it was a pretty pleasant read. I really like the girl interacts with the environment around her, and although her monologues are a bit to introspective for a child, it seems that might be a product of her circumstances. At the very least, she's appropriately childlike outside of that.
I just don't know if the conclusion was the most fitting consequence of her musings in the first couple of chapters; the stuff with the grandpa and the knobless door are interesting though. Some nice ideas, but I don't know if I care much about how they fit together as a whole.
