Thanks for translating those shorts and PV's on youtube.
Great work.

I can also speak English, if you'd like, but since I moved back home from Tokyo last fall, I rarely get to use my Japanese.
I do indeed have Facebook and Twitter!
返事が遅れて申し訳ありません!
これからも連絡取り合おうね!
自分の返事を英語に翻訳するのは凄いと思います!
日本語はまだ下手くそでごめんなさいね。MALで世界八番目の不思議って漫画を読んだことある人は俺とMyBushidoさんしかないみたいですね!MyBushidoさんもハルタを読んでますか?俺、毎月買いますんで色んなハルタで連載されてる漫画を読んでます。
That's an interesting site, thanks! Lots of stuff in there. Hopefully I'll find a way to download recordings so that I can put them on my iPod too (omg it's like 10 years old now and still works).
You're absolutely right, communicating is always the best way. I feel like learning all the English grammar rules and stuff in school didn't help me that much (maybe I just had a bad teacher...), but when I actually got on the internet and started chatting on forums it was a completely different story. I was making lots of mistakes at first, but I kept trying anyway and soon I improved a lot.
By the way, do you follow any Japanese podcasts or radio programs? I'm looking for something fun to listen for practice. I found Bilingual News, which is fantastic (very entertaining, and they speak half of the time in Japanese and half of the time in English, so I never feel too confused), but it would be nice to have more. Maybe any interesting YouTube channels you can recommend?
So you've been making subtitles for quite some time now. I'm curious: do you think it's definitely a good way to practice the language? Do you perhaps sometimes feel that you're spending more time on technical stuff (like timing, fonts, etc) rather than the translation itself? Or can you time everything really fast?
Btw, what program are you using for creating subtitles? Everyone seems to recommend Aegisub, is that pretty much the best option?
By the way, I've heard you had a rocket flying over your country. That's some scary stuff. I hope they stop before things get worse...
Thank you once again for all your hard work at translating. I am immensely enjoying and appreciating it, especially with Youjo Shenki and the episode previews.
Take care and keep up the great work! (o^-')b
Thanks a lot for the detailed answer as usual. Now I understood just about everything, so I should be able to finish my translation soon. I'm still a little confused about 健気, it seems like it's not so easy to translate well, but I'll figure something out. :) I got some interesting replies here by the way: http://japanese.stackexchange.com/questions/42288/understanding-and-translating-%e5%81%a5%e6%b0%97
I hear:
I think on YouTube you can put, like, text annotations over your video. So that could be a quick way to fix your translations without editing and reuploading the whole video. I think that function is available for everyone?
Thanks to your response I understood a lot already. Apparently the OVA I'm translating is available here: http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/sOTizE3OpDc/ So if you want more context, you can check out these scenes:
- The hamburger (not Hamburg! :P) one is at 08:36.
- The こんなに(?)だけで one begins at 21:50. Basically, she is too proud/embarassed to admit that she likes Tetsuya, so she says something about that?
- And the weird "transparent" stuff is at 32:20. This happens after she convinces Tetsuya to go to the match even though he is feeling ill.
- The short last one is at 39:43 or so.
I think I understand everything else, except... Can you explain what 麗子ちゃんだって恋する男には健気なんだと思う means exactly? It is said after 29:25 on the video. I get that it's about how she is in love but I'm not totally sure what he wants to say with that. What does 健気 do there? Like, it is brave of her to be in love or something? I'm a little confused.
