I'm just a Uni student that watches anime and judges the taste of others.
I only watch things twice if I have rated them at least an 8, however anything above a 5 means it has some good content.
I'm not an elitist.
I also play a lot of video games stuff like Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry, Bioshock, Shadow of the Colossus, Final Fantasy VI and IX, etc.
Yeah bro, Jojo is really good! (Well, didn't liked part 1 that much but the rest that I've read is pretty good)
I'm currently on part 5 and planning to read until part 7 atleast before the end of next month. (I'm probably going to be busy in June with IRL matters)
Not sure about dubbing the rest of red so far Blue is the only thing confirmed. Pink Jacket was notorious for having really bad translations on par with Duwang scans of JoJo Part 4. A lot of people assume Pink to be very cartoony or goofy which is hypocritical since both red and pink are very over the top. Red is the one that is the most ridiculous especially when comparing red 155 eps to pinks 50. A lot of that complaint came from judging pink's 2nd opening which featured a lot of wacky imagery. The art style also derps a bit in some scenes along with redesigns that most people didn't like. I need to re-watch Pink since crunchyroll now has pink with proper english subs. I think is pink alright. To me the only bad lupin is a boring lupin and was very surprised with pink and red. Woman Fujiko is a show that I like some parts of it but the whole thing that ruins it for me is the ending as it lead to a plot twist which didn't win me over. That and the portrayal of hard boiled Zenigata which was a way different character and fujiko was very promiscuous. Basically, the characters behaved very differently in a meaner way.
It took me a while to adjust but I grew to like it. Red is very goofy when compared to green but the Geneon cast is probably the best one. They're also going to reunite for a Blue Jacket dub but it's still in the works. The only complaint I have about the red dub is some excessive swearing. Since this anime managed to air on adult swim back in the early 2000s Jigen would often say Son of a Bitch & Zenigata would say crap crap crap. It's more of a problem with the early eps. You will also hear a couple of jokes that weren't in the actual script along with some pop culture references such as actors, ebay and such. The red dub will be coming back to the u.s. in december via dvd re-release along with some more material. Back then Geneon only managed to dub about half the series before going out of business.
You're pretty much free to watch whatever you want. Most of the movies & specials are good but it also depends what type of Lupin you like. I think the basic guide to Lupin III would be this.
TV Special Episode 0 First Contact- a possible origin story to the group. On DVD
Mystery of Mamo Movie - the essential movie featuring the best villain of the series Mamo. On DVD with 4 English dubs.
Lupin III Part I Green Jacket - labeled by fans as the best Lupin series. On DVD
If you want a really gritty & darker version of Lupin then watch the following.
Woman Called Fujiko Mine DVD/Blu Ray
Jigen's Gravestone DVD/Blu Ray
Red Jacket does have the best chemistry with the 5 main characters but some eps are hit or miss.
Blue Jacket is recommend after seeing green due to various tributes.
I guess the recommended movie & specials to try out different flavors of Lupin would be these note most movies have 2 or 3 different names.
Liberty Crisis
Island of Assassins
The Fuma Conspiracy
Angel tactics
7 Days Rhapsody
Sweet Lost Night
Dead or Alive
vs detective conan tv special
vs detective conan movie
Harimao's Treasure
I remember jumping back & forth between sites. Kissanime does have a good chunk of them also some are available for purchase due to Discotek licensing a lot of lupin material. This site should have everything Lupin III. AnimeSoul.TV http://animesoul.tv/action/1531-lupin-iii-part-ii.html#.VTF7JdzF-So
Just letting you know Castle is a good movie but Lupin III is constantly interpreted differently. I personally don't think Cagliostro is a good place to start in terms of comparing other Lupin material especially the anime series. Here's a simple compare & contrast.
Lupin III Part I Green Jacket 1971
Very criminal driven often working on the element of surprise, disguises and outsmarting each other. Lupin III is possibly in his coolest shape in this series. Music is very groovy and one of a kind to all Lupin series.
Lupin III Part 2 Red Jacket 1977
Known for creating the Lupin episodic formula of the 5 main characters. Red Jacket is very over the top and is less about clever thefts. Lupin III himself develops a perverted goofy personality. Opening themes and music will forever be part of the entire Lupin III franchise. It's also the longest Lupin series with 155 eps.
Lupin III Part 3 Pink Jacket 1984
Crunchyroll & Hulu are the only places that have good subs for this series. Sort of a blend of the tone of green and red. Pink is also outrageous and the most colorful/funky looking series. Character designs are very different. Lupin III is once again shown as cool but also ridiculous for his gadgets.
Lupin III Part 4 Blue Jacket 2015
The newest Lupin III series is an attempt to having a over arching plot but doesn't excel too well. Sort of acts as a tribute to the previous Lupin III series for containing remixes of green and red music. There's also episodes that pay homage to green jacket. My annoyance for blue is introducing a lot of new characters that take away screen time from the main 5 especially Rebecca. Lupin's character felt kind of average as not much stood out from him when comparing his previous 3 counterparts.
Lupin III Woman Called Fujiko Mine 2012
Acts as a gritty/meaner/sexual prequel to Green Jacket and is part of a separate timeline which continues in Jigen's Gravestone 2014 and 2017 Goemon Spray of Blood.
There's also a bunch of movies/ovas/tv specials that have the Lupin cast behave and look differently in each one. Search up Fujiko Mine in google images for she has the most drastic and numerous character design changes.
Have you tried Batoto? The translations are still good for a while under vol 6 v2. You might need an account to read it. Also I'm not sure how far you have read after Jagi. http://bato.to/reader#3e68acef4364e8c0_6
