Take care, and hopefully, you'll find it.
Some of my favorite shounens are The Law of Ueki and Konjiki no Gash Bell!, I've re-read those a countless times, and I would definitely recommend them to you if you haven't. Ueki is different, because even though they give all their characters (super)powers.. all of the powers are either fucking stupid or not useful at all, yet, the way the mangaka makes use of them with the characters and the story is absolutely insane! Gash is a bit more like most, but Gash himself, and a lot of the other characters, but especially the comedy, made it a instant hit with me! Besides those two I'd say more well-known series like One Piece and Hunter x Hunter, both have amazing world-building, an infinite amount of great characters (esp. OP) and the way the story unfolds is simply amazing, I might think HxH is the best shounen conceived into this world, IF it wasn't for the major amount of hiatuses.
BECK is technically a shounen, but I don't really view it as that, but that one is amazing, it's theme is music and singing, but.. it's a manga. Yet I always loved the singing moments in the manga. I still haven't checked out the anime, and I probably never will, because they probably portray it a lot differently than I had in mind.
Hana to Kimi is another one of my favorite reads and.. it's a SHOUJO!. whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat.. Yes, a Shoujo. It's about a girl who cross-dresses as a guy to get into an all-male school for her favorite idol, and I know it sounds cliché, but those characters are so well done! I think the reason I actually got through with reading and finished it is because I watched the JP live-action first, which I also thought was a lot of fun. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have gone through with reading.
There's a lot more, but I can't think of them right now. Beside Doubutsu no Kuni, which I highly recommend to basically everyone, but it's starts out as a very specific read. I won't say too much, and don't try to read anything about it, but it's a great fucking manga (from the Gash mangaka).
Yeah, when I watch, at the moment, I tend to watch manga-adapted anime, but only those where I read the manga of, that way I don't always have to pay attention.. xD I'm still trying to watch Super, but I just can't get into it (almost 50 episodes in tho'). But I'll probably keep it to interesting original animes and movies.
