AoT has many asspulls, but Marley is definitely not one of them. The existence of the second Continent was already hinted at in season 2 as was the true existence of the Titans in the Ova (season 1) and in season 1 during Hang's investigation. Likewise, the ability of the future was already hinted at in Chapter 1, as well as in Season 3, that the series will take "future" as a theme. The name of Chapter 1 alone, "To You, 2000 Years From Now," more than hinted at this. When Eren was taking a nap under the plot tree.
The finale of AoT was a disappointment, of course, but it wasn't that disastrous. You can criticize almost any anime/manga. But both CG and AoT are VERY flawed. And that you condemn one but praise the other is questionable. But as I said, if it's just about "your taste", you totally have the right to do so.
Yet, if someone calls something "overhyped" he needs to know his own standpoint.
So, how do you score Stuff like Code Geass 10/10 which is basicaly just a low budget with AoT, with only 1/10 of the Plot and Characters? Dont get me wrong, i watched CG 3 times by now and i like it. But this show has such bad character writing and slow pacing, its sometimes deadly (mostly the second season)
And the same goes for Elfenlied and Dragon Ball. Where you got those high scores from? Even the worst AoT season is far superior to any of them. Same for Akame ga Kill being 8/10 despite the Manga being average and still 2 times better than the Anime Adaption.
It always confuses me, if someone calls something "overrated" but then throws around scores like there is no tomorrow
Also alot of the arcs in the one piece did have pacing issues, but I will tell you, since the new director has taken over the series, the anime has been literal FIRE!! Probably even better then the manga it self. Certainly things were not entirely apparent in the manga and the anime fleshed out those moments with more clarity, also many of the action set piece moments in the series are just brimming with such detail and cheography that the manga really could no way have pulled that off.
So I guess what I am trying to say is if you are planning on picking back up one piece, you can read most of the manga if you don't prefer the poor pacing of the anime but it does improve quite significantly later on. Although there is one smaller arc that I would absolutly read as opposed to watching, it was a heavly expositional story dump arc called the "reverie arc" but the anime completly destroyed it by ruining suprising elements of the story and also changing events from the manga, this of course was right before the current director of one piece left, a little coincidental don't you think? Maybe he new he screwed up so bad that there was no fixing it so he jumped ship.
Either way, the manga is great but some of the later arcs have a certain quailty to them where they are just top notch and even supercede the manga. Think of like a Triple AAA Disney High budget animation film production. There is moments like that in the series that just blow you away.
