I agree. I was really confused too and I wanted to keep watching it to know what happens next and why all that was happening. The reason itself was pretty interesting too.

Sort of, but Amnesia is a dating sim while this is a visual novel, meaning you don't get to pick and choose. For example Umineko is a murder mystery, so you just read through it but it plays like a dating sim, and you just have to try and figure out the mystery by playing all the games which will give you more hints and only in the last one, you were able to interact and choose a route.
Normally, it's just reading through. I consider it something between reading a manga and watching anime.

It's umineko no naku koro ni, one of my all time favorite visual novel. It's an anime too but I find they kind of messed it up.
