Hm, what to say about myself.....
Well as anybody can tell, I'm an anime fan. Since I was a young child I started off with a lot of those popular Shounen series, namely stuff like Dragon Ball Z and Naruto. Granted, I haven't actually consistently kept up with the anime adaptation for most of these series or I've seen them a VERY long time ago so if there's an anime or manga that falls into this category, it's in my on-hold section along with my more current on-hold stuff. Amusingly enough that makes the on-hold list really huge, nearly as big as my completed list (which is also a recent development, as it actually had more series for a good amount of time). I guess I've seen glimpses of a lot more anime than I've had time to watch through, at least till recently anyway. In the past couple years or so I've been expanding my manga reading and have found quite a few series that I did not expect to enjoy nearly as much as I have. With schoolwork and such, I can't read manga or watch anime quite as much as I would like, but steadily I'm getting through the series I want to see. Keeping to a policy of one episode/volume per day tends to allow me decent progress over time so I can get through things eventually. Well, that said, I hardly even have to keep it a policy anymore because after doing that for about a year it's become pretty much a natural part of my day. Oh, and I enjoy music quite a bit, I'm the type of person who brings my iPod just about everywhere. For the most part I enjoy alternative rock, video game music, anime themes, and Vocaloid. Well, as it stands right now, mostly anime themes. I'll take a chance to listen to other songs I remember on the spur of the moment, but other than recent anime songs I haven't taken the time to pursue any other songs in recent times, with the exception of some occasional Vocaloid music. It seems that every time I go to Anime Expo, my interest in new Vocaloid songs is always resparked. Anywho, not sure if there's that much more to say about myself. Anything else that's important is easy enough to gather from a conversation with me (though, admittedly, the conversation speed will be incredibly slow at this point in time) so yeah. So words aside, here's some other random stuff I felt like putting here: My Rating Scale I have both an AIM and a Skype for those who might care. For both of those, my username is rocklee112713. I tend to go on AIM pretty often simply because it's where I've talked to some forum buddies for years now and a massive source of nostalgia, but I haven't touched my Skype in a long time. If you really want to chat with me on Skype (particularly since my responses always seem to be slow these days), perhaps you'll be able to convince me to log on again regularly sooner or later. I have a blog where I write about anime, manga, video games, and convention experiences. Since I've been busy as of late I haven't gotten around to making posts in a while, and to be honest I haven't really been feeling up to writing on it recently either. Might return to blogging when I have more time and feel more inclined to ramble about my thoughts on the stuff I'm watching, but for now I probably won't do a whole lot with it. AMQ pipeline real
Yes. So in such a case, even if you don't enjoy it or don't feel intrigued by it, but you acknowledge it's a good work (artistically speaking), then how would you rate it? Give it a good score or an avg one?
For example, I liked the premise of the Higurashi no Naku series. However, the first few chapters of the unnecessary glimpses of the MC's school life (again and again in every manga), which contributed nothing to the plot whatsoever, annoyed tf out of me. Not to mention the unnecessary boob and underwear shots+the loliz. But then the mysteries and the twists kept me sufficiently intrigued, and I ended up giving them an avg of 7. I'm still undecided as to whether I should rate it a 6 (an avg for me) or discount its flaws and rate it on solely what it set out to be - a mystery.
Lemme ask you this - do you rate stuff on the basis of enjoyment, or on the basis of how 'good' that piece of work was for you? And if it's the former, what do you do when you have good work in front of you (by your standards), and yet, it fails to pull you in?
Lulz. I'd forgotten that difference scores have different meanings for people. Hah.
