Characters: Good group banter or loner and kid duo, strong characters that regressed to their weakest and coming back, powerless characters finally get their deserved progress, wholesome relationship, tragic but then hopeful relationships.
Plot: Found Families, Childcare, Well executed tone shift, Early Foreshadowing that come into effect at the very end.
Themes: Don't like pessimistic, edgy or grimdark message, enjoy practical lessons, realistic and optimistic takeaways.
Setting: Not-boring Medieval world like Mushoku Tensei's, Apocalyptic world like Nier:Automata with overgrown cities, flooded world, things built out of scraps, cozy hangout spots, giant forest and creative architecture that utilize it. I love it when I look back at a show and is able to think "the characters, plot, themes couldn't have been this way without the setting".
Art Style: It's eye candy for me to see detailed background like Makoto Shinkai works. I hate sing-dotted nose character designs like Clannad's and one-face syndrome like SAO's. My eyes glitter when I see good color pallet and lightning, like Grimgar. I love to see smooth character animations that makes them feel alive, I always find myself at awe to see creative storyboarding/camera.
Soundtrack: I love Kanaka Ito hype type intros and endings, I like ambient and upbeat battle OST from stories like Nier:Automata, Steins;Gate, FMAB, Shield Hero, Grimgar.
How I rate stuffs:
Writing: Plot, Characters, Setting and Theme inter-connectivity. How well the characters, plot and setting all supports the theme? How well the plot, characters and theme utilize the setting? How creative or well executed is characterization using all the tools offer through writing, sound and visual? How creative or well executed is the plot in term of setting expectations, keeping the target audience engage and pay off.
Visual: The usage of story boarding, character designs, setting designs, color pallet, lightning, character animation, combat animation to communicate tone and tension, characterize and breath life to the setting.
Audial: How well the done are the OP and ED, Original soundtrack, Insert song, Sound effects contribute to the audience emotional experience through the use of light motifs, instruments, etc.
Note: I'll rewatch the shows I want to rate seriously and just rate the ones that don't really grab my attentions off my mental notes after first watch.
What my score means:
1-5: Bad (No animes deserve a 1, the lower an anime is on the scale of 1-5 simply means how much I passionately hate said anime)
6: Okay, I'm conflicted between good and bad
7: Good, but I have some complaints. Totally would recommend to people and promise them that high chance they'll have a good time watching, all my complains would add up to a paragraph of 5 sentences
8: Really Good, few complaints, all my complains would only add up to be 3 sentences
9: Holy Shit, tiny or no complaints, all my complains would only add up to be one phrase or sentence
10: Masterpiece, blew my mind. I'd confidently defend anything it did and praise most of the thing it did.
