As a poor college student who really wishes he could afford to buy both of those blu rays, I can't help but be a little flustered. Granted, your enjoyment will heavily depend on your tolerance for romance/coming of age themes, but both films are terrific in representing those genres, and I can't recommend watching them enough. mimi for its character development, and 5cm/s for its aesthetic brilliance.

Incidentally, is the first KnK movie really your favorite of the series? I've always held that the 1st film was a rather weak link compared to the 5th and 7th installments.

Your Jin-Roh review was spot on. The way the film managed to capture and portray the human psyche in such an expressive but subtle manner really left me spellbound through its entirety. Really beautiful stuff.

Hmm, you're right that Pablabor is a good bit wordier than Jin-Roh, but I don't feel that their settings are all that different even if one is more futuristic than the other. I feel that Patlabor's setting is pretty dark too though; I felt that it did a really good job with communicating the sheer tension of martial law for all parties involved.

I'm just kind of surprised that you liked one so much more than the other because I really like both of them, haha.

I agree with your review about it being unclear in Jin-Roh whether the country is "better off" at the end or not, but I think that is very intentional and I was similarly satisfied with the ending. I think that it's profound reflection of reality that even if the protagonist's faction triumphs, it's not really possible to say definitively whether it it was for the best in the grand scheme of things, and I think that it is very humble and un-presumptuous to focus on the human drama instead.

Jin-Roh at 10 and Pablabor 2 at 5? Aren't they kinda like, the exact same movie?

And yeah, maybe. I find it very strange that on some days, I'd get like 100-200+ views in a single day. There's no way the "views" are accurate - in my opinion that is.

But on the bright side, the big numbers look good and makes me feel better whenever I go on haha!
