I've been an knowing anime fan since the early days of Sailor Moon in the 90's, and an unknowing one since even earlier when I used to watch Voltron, Robotech (It's source was still an anime.), and Ronin Warriors without truly realizing what they were.
I'm one of the ones who used to stay up until all hours of the night to catch those 1am PBS showings of some show or another, and one of the ones who remembers the old Anime Unleashed block.
Now-a-days I spend my time hunting down whatever series catch my interest. I'm not the pickiest watcher, nor am I the most critical reviewer. While I'm not one to turn down a series like Hajime no Ippo, that is an amazing example of what anime should be, I can usually find at least a couple things I like about a series. Hence most of what I watch doesn't get below a five when I rate it. So long as it's got a story that grabs me, and decent voice acting, I'm usually happy.
Incidentally, I know my rating for Slayers NEXT is probably inordinately high? However, despite it's flaws, it's also the first series I ever sought out to watch in the original Japanese, and thus it holds a special place in my heart. It is, essentially, the series that finished what Sailor Moon started and turned me into an anime fan.
Just don't put me anywhere near M.D. Geist or Tekken. Or pretty much any anime based on a fighting game, really.
