Ever since I was young I have been fascinated with different types of cartoons/anime and I currently plan to enter a career involving animation in the future.
The anime begins with the most forced motivation I have ever seen in an anime. Nothing about the first episode makes any sense. No court in the free world would sentence a child that harshly regardless of his crime. Above that, the evidence didn't add up in the slightest. The faked confession didn't even play part in the trial, this was released after the sentence. And in what world does a "bomb" cause cut wounds anyway.
But lets say the trial never happened. Lets just say everything went like it should or that it was actually properly explained.
The deadman wonderland attraction park is a farce. The modern world wouldn't stand for it. There is a clear distinction between seeing special effects and somebody getting impaled on spears. There would be investigation upon investigation on such an show. Not to mention SEVERE censorship.
Now once again, lets say somehow the world accepted this "running man" kind of entertainment. The anime still wouldn't make sense.
How does a high school student make it through such a gauntlet without being the first to die? From what we see he isn't exactly the brightest, nor is he the captain of the track club.
Biting your thumb to make it bleed? This would cause severe injury and scarring.
A chick who goes around murdering people and just forgets about it? Security measures are a joke. Nothing about her captivity makes any sense. Nor did her motives get explained at all.
A group of people with super powers that can smash through walls? Then proceed to run through security instead of just bypassing them.
Giving a character back story right before they die. This doesn't make me care about them, its just another excuse to make the audience "feel bad" for whoever dies.
There is so much more that could be pulled into question, i however don't feel the need to put myself through that again. These are the things I pulled from the top of my head.
I'm sure there is a lot more to bitch n moan about.
I gotta say, i liked the battle near the end. It wasn't anything special but compared to the bullshit you sit through in the rest of the show it was quite good. The anime simply isn't enjoyable. There is no payoff and there is nothing calling me back for the second series. Any anime with more than a single season should at least have a worthy cliffhanger in between.
Its a battle-royal/kill-count anime with a horrible story and a cheap execution going for nothing more than shock value. And it even fails to deliver on the shock value. Censoring the gore beats the point of there being any. They would have been better off leaving it implied.
Since you kindly asked, I will try to answer your questions with the best of my knowledge.
The objective of the story is very unclear and it’s filled with plot-holes within these short 13 episodes. The series continues on while most of the world is never really explored or explained, all we get is the school property and a small portion of it for that matter.
The characters weren’t memorable, the only one that is really sets apart from the rest of the Battlefront members is TK but that is mostly for his personality we find out initially, not for his development as a character. What really aggravated me was that Yuri acted as if Kanade was her best friend all along out of nowhere, where they were fighting for their lives and for their dreams a couple of episodes back. A friendship should be built long-term but the interaction between these two had felt very forced. At the end, we see characters disappearing as they walk away from the gymnasium without ever being seen again. Did they vanish off-screen or are they hiding or what? Another thing was at the after-credits, both Otonashi and Kanade crossed paths in the real world. I mean, what is going on? This is something I can’t digest at all.
About the humor, I think it is the matter of whether you get the joke or not. I couldn’t tell where a moment of comedy was displayed, if it were then it never caught my attention.
I know this can be quite opinionated from me but most of my catalogs are known for being a battle anime series, and this is the series I've watched from another person's suggestion which wasn't to my liking.
Thanks, i don't really like reviews like that either; they tell you nothing about the show/books/game/etc. I prefer more in-depth opinions so i can make up my mind. Truth be told i was a bit hesitant about watching it myself but i was glad for the experience once i had ^.^
I'm not always brilliant at putting whati think/feel into words, but i try my best to make it as clear as possible and i usually succeed lol.

I hope this cleared up the questions you had.
Just to talk back, I was speaking about the anime which don't have a true story. It may have one later on but not when I've stopped. So I'm half safe.
