what do u think of fruits basket so far?

The soap-opera style isn't quite my thing, but i'm really liking the story and characters :)

I was born in the '80s. My first anime was the film Little Nemo: Adventures In Slumberland in the early '90s, but I had no idea it was an anime until 2014. (It was produced in both America and Japan.) I saw random episodes of stuff like Sailor Moon and Pokemon on TV in the '90s, but didn't get deeper into anime until I saw the three I mentioned, in the early 2000s. So I'm familiar with old TVs.
The first Funimation English dub of DBZ had a unique American soundtrack that really brought the show to life. Plus the English voice acting is iconic. (Unlike so many dubs with atrocious voice acting.) That was my first exposure to Dragon Ball. I've seen nearly everything in the 800+ episode franchise.
Ha. I've also seen Soul Eater around that many times, on everything from an iPod to an HDTV. My brother's favorite anime character is Excalibur and his favorite anime is School Rumble. He never watched much anime aside from ones I showed him.
At the end of the manga, apparently Eri and Kenji get married. I think it's in a separate short manga.
I love that they decided to remake Kenshin, but I don't think it's nearly as good as the original. I used to have this box set.

heh. DBZ, YYH and Kenshin were the first full anime series I saw. School Rumble is the funniest anime I've seen.
Check out the one of a kind custom Hunter x Hunter engraving I have on an audio component.

You completed Berserk recently! But if I'm not mistaken it wasn't your first time. Berserk was my first anime that wasn't Ghibli (I love Ghibli) and it proven me how deep and dark anime can be.

why read almost 1100 chapters of a 6?
I caught up with the anime first, somewhere in 2020. I started reading the manga from 900 something chapter I guess.

I have given a 6 because the main story moves really slow and the author often goes on hiatus so we don't always get the chapters.

Now all that have been said, it's a show from my childhood. How this series ends is something I care about (I stopped reading for a year or two, just now back to catch up)

huh??? 2x speed??? wouldn't that ruin the experience?

When something has boring long dialogues I just skip a few seconds long chunks to get over with it (but I only had to use this for shonens so far). When something is very boring but is recommended by a friend (e.g. isekais) then when it gets unbearable I watch the fights at 2x and the rest at 1.5x speed

Ironically, the flights are often the most boring parts for me, giving me no new information and we already know who will win, at least if we are talking about isekais with overpowered MCs

Oh so you haven’t watched it yet, yeah I’m actually not a fan of how they expanded upon the demon world in that one (there’s some weird retcons but nothing too offensive) but overall it’s still a decent excuse for Goku to go on an adventure as a kid again. It’s basically fantasy GT
tinshard Nov 26, 2024 9:15 AM
Yeah, we have an old CRT tv (and actually a PS3) at home. 3 things stop me. 1) The console is not mine, it's shared property among my family and I don't want to risk doing anything with it 2) it would be a lot of hassle 3) I prefer to watch anime alone in peace and it's impossible if I'm tied to a giant box that also draws a lot of attention

Yes, console manufacturers had so many unusual ideas. Like the first console that displayed only a few squares on the screen and the user had to stick overlay papers to the tv screen as backgrounds

Lmfao thanks, that made me remember to hide my birth year from my profile

When you mean canon you mean the manga ending where Goku trains Uub? I mean that was fine too but yeah at least GT is the only post-Z media that builds upon that. Super is just ass, some of the most shameless milking I’ve ever seen, basically only appeals to MCU fans and people that do power scaling debates (super isn’t even consistent on that regard)

At least Daima is way more watchable, had to give it a try after everything around it being the last thing Toriyama worked on, as well as having better animation but yeah that ep 7 joke was just bad. Still not as offensive as Super

Awesome! And yeah so far i'm liking Kenshin ^_^ I hadn't had much time for anime lately but trying to get back again hehehe

Hi there! Thanks for accepting my fr! I'm Matt nice to meet you!
tinshard Nov 23, 2024 3:12 PM
Yeah, I'm not a big JRPG fan but the Mario RPGs stole my heart.

Oh, yeah, that looks cool, I'd try it for sure! In fact, I watched many cartoons on CRT at my grandparents but never watched an anime specifically, so I want to try that some day.

And talking about CRT, I could try a kind of display you probably couldn't experience first hand: I played on the Vectrex. A console with vector graphics screen! It's really interesting, it produces a very crisp image with great contrast, but it's limited to drawing lines and dots and cannot fill in shapes. I took a short video of my gameplay but I'll show a picture from the net instead

Thanks, I will when I'll have the appropriate time and mental state.

Yeah, I agree that watching a playthrough is just as good in this case. Still, I think I'll also get the rest of the endings and not watch a playthrough, even if it will cost my sanity for a few days.

That's an interesting retro game setup. I play a few too, mostly old Nintendo games on my phone from various consoles, usually from the GBA (the only console I played as a kid). My favorite is Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, although Bowser's Inside Story got really close on my favorite list (I haven't finished that yet).

CRT has a feeling, that's for sure. I'm not old enough so I never played on a CRT tv at home, but I tried some retro games on them at retro game conventions like the event I mentioned. Still, I never watched anime on a CRT screen, I wonder how a 4:3 anime would look on it, like Evangelion?

Yes, Metal Slug games are the kings of pixel art. Those background and giant bosses with their detailed designs and animations are something you don't see anywhere else. There's a very interesting and long article about how they were born, but it's not in English.
tinshard Nov 22, 2024 2:02 AM
Thank you, I appreciate it! I was thinking about reforming my profile with a little less and better structured text and a few more pictures (thanks to viraat_pirate), but so far I couldn't find the time for it.

You have a few interesting titles in your game library! I love Sonic Generations, it's the only Sonic game that could grab my attention. Even though the bosses are just terrible and I'd gladly skip them all. I see you briefly tried Cuphead and Hollow knight as well, both can be unforgiving but at least Hollow Knight allows you to heal haha. But true fans wouldn't agree with me, saying it's easier than I think.

Apparently, you didn't dare to play DDLC yet. I can't blame you, its true to it's fame and is very unsettling

And you also have Metal Slug X! I tried it too, some say it's one of the best games in the series, but in my opinion Metal Slug 3 is just much better. That was also the first Metal Slug I saw, I was at a retro game convention with my father and the last player left the arcade machine when they lost all their continues, so we took the opportunity, pressed the insert credit button before the counter was over and fighted the giant crab boss together (the machine was set so it didn't require real credits, just to press a button that gives you one more)

Huh, I wrote a lot. I hope you don't mind, I love talking about games ^^
It’s time to ditch the text file.
