Note: I use a rating system that can include additional .5 ratings for items above 8/10. As it is not possible to assign them directly with MAL scores, any item that I have rated 8.5/10 or 9.5/10 is instead tagged with its actual rating and has its MAL score rounded down to the nearest integer. Please check tags to see my full score for these items.
Some items also have brief descriptions attached to explain why they received a certain score. I do not intend to give a description to every item - only those I feel merit further explanation or commendation.
Scoring Rubric:
10: A complete masterpiece that made a strong and profound impression on me. Recommendable without hesitation to anyone looking for interesting and worthwhile media, regardless of whether they normally watch anime or not.
9.5: Outstanding items that have a lasting impact, but don't quite reach 10/10 status either due to very minor issues or (in some cases) specific problems that prevent them from being recommendable to newcomers.
9: Highly enjoyable. Anything at or above this rating is easily recommendable and definitely worth a watch.
8.5: The "in-between" rating. Not 9 material on its own merits, but I enjoyed it and feel it deserves additional recognition.
8: I liked it, it was worth watching, and it's recommendable to others depending on their preferences. A handful of problems may be present, but nothing significantly hindered the experience.
7: Decent, but either has major narrative problems, or is forgettable or repetitive. Proceed with appropriate expectations.
6: Disappointing. Enjoyable at times, but had numerous glaring issues.
5: Not interesting and lacked memorable or meaningful content.
4: Not enjoyable to watch, not worth your time, and not recommended.
3: Fails to provide a compelling, coherent, consistent, or competent narrative. NOT recommended.
2: Actively painful to watch.
1: Bottom-of-the-barrel, meme-level garbage that you shouldn’t even consider watching.
