Hey there, I'm MarioLuigi0404! But you can use whatever shorthand you like, I'm not picky.
I've been into anime and manga ever since I watched/read things like InuYasha, SAO, Bleach, Psyren and Naruto as a younger teen, and it's gotten to the point where anime is the only kind of TV and movies I really watch.
I've also become quite a big fan of Light Novels in recent years, with my first exposure being Arifureta after hearing that the anime adaptation didn't do the series justice. Series like A Certain Magical Index have quickly become favourites of mine, and now I plan on reading the original source material for many of the anime I've come to enjoy over the years.
Unfortunately, I didn't get around to making use of MAL until quite a bit later, so a lot of the things I watched way back in the day will probably be missing from my list for quite a bit... plus I'm not the best at remembering to update it, especially on a per episode basis, and even more so when it comes to manga and LNs.
Regardless, I will try to score everything I watch going forward. My scores will try to be based on objective analysis for the most part, but I will not pretend personal taste won't impact my ratings. I believe in a generally high average compared to some users on here, with 7 being the "default" score. For a more in-depth breakdown of each score range:
10: Easily the rating most prone to personal bias. I don't believe that a 10 necessarily means a piece of media is perfect - it just means it's perfect or near-perfect for me personally.
9: Also fairly prone to bias, 9s are content that I believe is outstanding. Some 9s are series that would be 10s if not for one or two issues (Ex: World Trigger S1 - phenomenal series, but the initial run had some absolutely baffling production decisions), whereas others are simply series that I believe are fantastic, but can't justify giving 10s.
8: Content that is notably above average, but not enough to warrant a 9. 8s and above generally need to have respectable production values, and are special enough in some way to justify choosing to watch them over any other series in the same category. (Ex: A Certain Magical Index I and II anime. I absolutely love the Toaru series, but the Index anime adaptation doesn't really live up to the novels or Railgun. However, the first two seasons are still decent, and the series is special enough that you couldn't just replace it with any other contemporary sci-fi fantasy and get the same experience.)
7: The baseline 'good' score. If something is enjoyable enough to read or watch, but doesn't do anything exceptionally well or exceptionally poorly, it'll end up here. Additionally, series that have significant issues that would normally warrant a 6 can recover to a 7 if they have something special enough about them. (Ex: Black Summoner is a fairly average "junk food isekai" with a lot of tropes, and the plot of the first season really doesn't follow any consistent through line - which would normally drop it down to a 6. However, due to the unique high-quality implementation of CGI, the fun approach to the "overpowered MC" trope, and the setup for a much better second season in terms of plot, Black Summoner is able to earn back it's 7.)
6: Decent content that struggles in some notable way or another, and doesn't do anything special enough to warrant a bonus point. Most 6s are an okay read/watch for those who like the genre, but nothing special, and not something I would revisit. As usual, there's also special 6s, that would warrant lower, but are brought back up for one reason or another. (Ex: Index III, which probably has enough issues as an adaptation to warrant a 5 or even a 4. However, under the mess that is the surface, its still an adaptation of some of Index's best arcs, and thanks to some threads on Reddit that make it much easier to follow and understand the brilliant story that is Index, it claws its way back up to a 6.)
5: Content that I would describe as 'painfully mid'. Series that really struggle to get me invested in the world, plot, or characters, have generally low production values, and just aren't really worth my time. 5s don't actively do anything wrong, but they also generally fail to do much right. Alternatively, a show could earn a 5 (or below) if it started strong, but somewhere along the lines made a drastic wrong turn that actively ruined it.
4 and below: I almost never rate things this low, since if I think I would hate a series this much, I generally avoid it in the first place. For a series to earn a 4 or lower, it would have to actively be terrible. Alternatively, if a good series were to completely ruin itself for whatever reason, it might be able to earn a 4 or lower, depending on how bad it screwed up.
Additionally, I have a policy that optional 'filler' content in adaptations doesn't negatively impact a score by default. (Ex. The final 8 episodes of Railgun S are an anime-original story that has basically zero impact on the overarching Toaru franchise - they are entirely optional viewing, and thus should not detract from the 10 that the Sisters Arc earned.) In some cases, filler will be taken into account, but that is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
