The first arc was kind of dumb but it's been getting better and better since then. I really like some of the main characters and their relationships, and how some themes like poverty are being handled. So it's pretty good so far.
Sorry for the late reply, I haven't really been on much lately.
Glad you liked it! VDGG is quite unique so it's hard to recommend similar styles, but I think you'll like the band Discipline. I'd go with their album Unfolded by Staircase to start out. Other bands you might like are King Crimson, Gentle Giant, and Gong.
The music you recommended was pretty interesting— dark and psychedelic with eerie vocals. It has this otherworldly sound that resembles Zeuhl in a way. I think Magma is the most well-known Zeuhl group (I'm not too familiar with the genre), so you may want to check them out.
Van Der Graaf Generator is a rather interesting band, full of passion, but unfortunately not for the casual listener. If you're interested in delving into their music, I'd suggest the albums Pawn Hearts or Godbluff to start off with. As for individual songs, my favorites are probably "Refugees," "The Sleepwalkers," and "Man-Erg." I hope you enjoy their work!
