I love the Japanese culture and language. I can barely speak it though. Drowned myself in anime, music, and manga to get more exposure I guess.
Trivia: The word 'Mango' originated from Portuguese 'Manga'.
Also referred to as the "King of Fruits"
How I started Anime
As a young boy growing up, I would watch the occasional anime on T.V. Shows such as Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor, Ayashi no Ceres, etc. But it wasn’t until ‘09 that I would start watching anime as a hobby.
I always had a love for the Japanese language and culture, but none of my schools would offer any Japanese courses. And so I then decided that I would take matters in my own hands try to learn online, where one of the greatest exposures would be… anime.
Soon everything I did was influenced by anime. My artwork took a turn towards anime/manga style illustrations, I would be listening to catchy theme songs that I couldn’t get out of my head, and all music I played would be from aforementioned songs.
Soon, as I was keeping up with new releases and checking out old classics (or anything that struck my fancy) I would figure, “this is not enough”. And so I got tired of waiting for the next episode, and skipped ahead, to the source manga/light novel. From there, with the pacing, alternative experience, and the additional content of the manga, I was addicted to both.
Why I started using MAL
I started ‘MyAnimeList’ as a referral from a friend. I use to check the forums from time to time, but was brought to attention that, ‘you can keep track of all the crap you’ve been through’. I was like “huh, that’s nifty.” and so here I am with my very own account.
Why I started reviews
I was always one to believe that, “An experience is one better off shared with others”. I would be able to enjoy watching an anime or movie 4 or 5 times just seeing my friends’ reactions. If I watched anything I couldn’t get off my mind, I would rant on to other people about. But the only thing is from time to time, I would start to get annoying. Aha…
I would then proceed to look on forums and look online for reviews to meet people who shared my passion passion, or just read about their experiences. I figured, “I should give it a go”. I could write my opinion and post it online. Anyone who wanted to read about my experiences thoughts and so forth would be able to do so whenever they felt like it, and anyone who didn't could go bugger off somewhere. :p
About my reviews
I try my best to avoid writing any spoilers or regurgitation of plot and character. MyAnimeList will offer you a nice brief summary of the anime/manga (just hover over the title). Instead I write about what I thought of the anime and would I recommend it to others. I try to keep a slight open mind, and write about what the viewers should expect coming into the anime, while trying to keep the review quick and fun to read.
Despite my scores looking like my kill/death ratio every time my friend invites me over to play Call of Duty, I still enjoy writing reviews, and as long as someone found them entertaining I feel as my job is complete.
I got lazy tagging [which chapter I was on, what volume I was on, if I really liked it, if I flat out hated it, what's the reread value, how many times I reread it, what I had for lunch that day, when I started it, when I finished it, etc.] halfway through adding all the anime/manga I've went through. Which as you can see, is quite a bit. (Those are the ones I can remember anyway) I might add ratings for them sometime later. As for reviews and extra comments, I might update only the ones I really liked or hated.
I'll be quick about this...
Fantastic Mardock Scramble review.
I don't usually read MAL reviews since most of the ones I've read just restate the synopsis or bore me to tears, but I've got to say the witty sense of humor you had in your Mardock Scramble review really kept me wanting to keep reading.
I also very much enjoyed how honest and straight forward you were about your opinions and not trying to beat around the bush, and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna give Mardock Scramble a try since from how you described it, it should be pretty intense! >:D
It's not everyday I find a review this good (and entertaining), so 2-Thumbs up man ;D
Nice review on Zetsuen no Tempest. Although I must tell you 2 things:
1. There is no pirates lol
2. The plot gets a hell of a lot more dificult to follow but is also brilliant in it's twists.
great mardock review,i have watched it in English dub. its very upsetting they didn't dub the other parts of it yet.anyway i have enjoyed your review very mush not too long not tooo short it was just right and i loved that movie keep it up looking forward to reading more of your reviews :3
So I've noticed that your recent Madoka review didn't get many + votes. But I really liked it precisely because it was not your typical MAL summary/categorical analysis that everyone writes. I found your sense of humor entertaining.
Personally, I went into Madoka knowing it wasn't a for-kids mahou shoujo, so I was not in the same predicament as you. I liked reading about that experience though; it was interesting. I think that you've managed to convey the raw emotion that one may experience while watching Madoka in a simple, effective way.
I'm not usually a "fan" of reviews or reviewers, but I must say there have been some good ones lately that deserve some commenting. :P
Your Hyakka Ryouran: Samurai Girls review is probably funnier than the series, which I have not watched yet. Your review had me laughing most of the way thru it. Thanks for an entertaining read.
