Hey there! Thanks for visiting my profile! :)
Here's a guide to how I rate things here on MAL:
10 - I fully consider every 10 to be either a true classic, a masterpiece, or both-- and thus, of course, an absolute must-read/see!
9 - Very, very close to a 10 (and, indeed, sometimes with only a trivial reason why I didn't give it one)-- thus, IMO a 9 is a must-read/see, also. :)
8 - This is my standard of "Great." (Anything rated an 8 or above is excellent, and an automatic recommendation.)
7 - This is my standard of "Good." (I consider anything rated a 7 to be worth a watch/read at least once.)
6 - Eh, starting to fail a bit now. :P I mean, the stuff that I've rated a 6 will certainly have
some good points (enough for me to finish it, at least), but some of it might also make me wish I had spent my time on something else. :P So, basically, 6's are okay but not recommended, unless you're somehow lacking higher-rated stuff to see/read for some strange reason (LOL). ;)
5 - Completely mediocre, and not recommended at all.
4 and below - Well, judging by what I think of the 5's, I'm pretty sure you can figure out my opinion on those without me having to explain it, LOL! :P :D
And a
blank rating - One of three things: Either it was something that actually didn't need a rating (such as a recap episode or something similar); or I haven't seen or read enough of it to decide on a rating yet; *or*-- if it's completed-- the positive and negative aspects of that particular item's content were both so strong and so at odds that I literally couldn't choose a rating (...in other words, it's something that rates pretty high to me personally, however some of its content prevents me from being able to widely recommend it like I would with other things that I've rated the same. Also, be advised that the levels of such content that I'll allow before making the rating blank can fluctuate a bit depending on the work's genre {for example:
Psycho-Pass is a dark crime thriller, and as such you ought to already know what you might be getting into there, LOL :P ; so I just went ahead and rated that one as usual, even though some of its content would probably make me give it a blank rating if present in another type of series}). In any event, in this latter case, there will be some explanation in the entry's comments as to why I left the rating blank; however, if you'd like more specific details on a certain title, please feel free to PM me about it.
Now, speaking of the
comments: I place them in my list entries to further explain my ratings and/or add other helpful info-- to read them, just click "More" on a specific entry. :)
And finally, please note that when it comes to adaptations, if I have also seen/read/played/etc. its source material, how good of an adaptation that I believe it is will be a pretty heavy factor in my rating of it (and I also put some handy "Adaptation Level" images next to these entries to indicate whether they're a Fail, a Meh, or a Win :) ). For example, there are currently several anime titles that I have rated anywhere from a point or two lower (+ a "Meh") to many points lower (+ a "Fail") than the rating I gave to their respective sources, because their adaptations either could have done a fair bit better (in the case of the "Meh"/1-2 points) or actually completely messed up the original characters/plot (in the case of the "Fail"/many points (-_-;) ). Of course, though, there are also those rare adaptations that end up being at least equal to-- and, even more rarely, actually *better* than-- the source, and I will give those adaptations a well-deserved "Win." :) Thus, no matter *what* I have things rated at in either my manga or anime list, I always recommend that you double-check both lists to see if I have seen/read both the adaptation and source, and-- if so-- note the "Adaptation Level," compare both of their ratings, and see what I said in each of their comment areas. :)
Thanks again for stopping by! :)
